Trying for that last 6" will get you sometimes.

Backhoes are big help getting unstuck but they are also a lot of weight that wants to slide down hill when you are in a situation like Arrow's.

Arrow's situation makes be really glad I spent 30+ hours grading the edges of my driveway this summer. The ditches are now gentle slopes and ultimately deeper, but farther from the drive than they were, which means I can mow and drive in and out of them without any problems, and it still drains nicely. It also gives me 2 to 3 times more room to put the snow than I had, and I'm STILL running out of places to put it.

Wow, quite the adventure there Arrow... glad you came out of it unharmed and your "girl" looks to be unscathed as well (less the blow to her ego).

Any idea what set you off in the wrong direction?

Thanks Shift and Road. (pics Road are at #15). While attempting to widen out the drive as they were calling for another storm, The tractor took a bite of packed snow that made the rear end dance out toward the drop just a fraction. As I 'm attempting to "claw" my way out with the bucket, the right rear is sinking more and more. I stop and try to back up to gain my original angle. The entire tractor now shifts to the bad side. Anything I attempted from that point simply made things worse as the tractor was now on a snow pack almost 3 ft deep on one side. With feeling the tractor now having an inclination to "tip", I thought it best to get off and see if I could maneuver it to safety with a come along and the Durango. Neither the 5200 lb Durango or the 2 ton come-along could budge the 4000 lb tractor being cradled by a bunch of snow and a bad angle. The 12 ton winch on the wrecker had no problem.

This is why Doc I'm getting another rear blade that can easily be off set so the tractor does not have to be in the same place as the blade.

I'd wondered if that was the case when i saw the pics. I came close to this same scenario last year when trying to widen my drive.... being a newer operator i chickened out and ended up using the bucket to push/lift. Took FOREVER!

Curious to hear what blade you go with Arrow, I've had my eye on the "Everything Attachments" blade for a while now. Great features and good price.... Does Dale sell anything other than woods?

Wife and I are both glad to hear you're still up on 2 feet.

I think he does J. I know he deals with W.R. Long equipment. I'm not sure he is a Land pride dealer. I really like their RB-37 series. If I were to go with a Woods again, I would want their heavy duty series not for the heavy duty part, but for the increased mold board height to better collect snow. I feel the 3016 will pull a 17-18" high blade. Again, thank you and the Mrs. for the sentiment.

Same dang thing almost happened to me today while clearing snow -- got just little too inside a curve on my driveway and the back tires were dancing on the edge with the tractor going sideways for a good part of the turn. I just kept on the throttle and eventually it pulled out. Was a little dicey for a couple seconds. That edge of the driveway has about a 5' drop into a stream crossing with rip-rap rock down the sides. Even with ROPS that would not have gone well I am sure.

I think I did the same thing last year the first time I plowed. I really need to put out some stakes to mark the boundary of the driveway at that corner. It never looks the same when there is 8+ inches of snow on the ground.

Glad your mishap turned out uneventful. Does have a "puckering effect" however. The killer for me here S is that I have been plowing out this drive for 37 years. First time this happened to me. About 10 years ago, I had an oil delivery truck get stuck exactly where I am. Also had to call the wrecker in for him.
