Question.... are you talking about a 999.00 murray 12hp / 42" just to make it through the summer, .. or the bigger 1500 and 2500 dollar ones.

If you are spending big... remember that someone mentioned a cub.. they do nice finish cutting, and some even have hydraulics.. and will perform som of the tasks you need for a tractor.... heck.. I've seen a cub with a loader...

I just browsed ebay... there are cubs for 2500 and less.. some as low as 600.. ( and other tractors)

Don't overspend if you don't have to.

Well, I have decided to get a garden tractor for now. After I am sure on what my full needs are on a larger tractor, I will get one then. Just too many undecideds for me right now. And I need something to mow the lawn for sure.

Chris - I was the one who mentioned the Cub. I think they are an economical "starter" tractor and the tasks/price Ken mentioned are right up its alley. What can I say I've got two of them. Did you say loader???? How 'bout a pic of my '66 with an IH 1000 loader!! I just sold the loader as my tractor fever couldn't be cured with the just two Cubs so I added a BX22. The loader could then find a new home. Chuck

I went to a tractor show a few weeks ago, and while at a gas station right near the show, a guy pulled in with an absolutely cherry cub with a small loader... single lift cylinder, etc... looked awesome.. had pto, and a lift made up very well that would lift cat 1 3pt impliments...

Still had belly mower.... now if that wasn't a swiss army knife tractor I don't know what would be.... loader.. finish mower.. and small 3pt attatchments... possibly a 4' mower or box blade for sure... guess the front blade option had to be removed on that tractor for the loader frame.. though didn't notice..

My granddad had a few Cubs over the years. Great little tractors - nearly impossible to destroy. I know that he had one that was old when I was a young pup that kept going for more than 30 years. Wish I had been able to get those guys and keep them myself when he passed...

What about an Allis Chalmers B. With a 60 inch mower. They are asking $2600. Havent seen it yet. But, this is about the last attempt before I break down and just do the garden tractor thing.
