Those darn C.A.R.B. compliant fuel cans

I like the cans Rat posted. I have a strong dislike for traditional fuel cans, I can't think of a worse design!

A couple of week ago I managed to soak myself to the skin through insulated coveralls filling the tractor via a 5 gallon jug. The spouts never seal right at the neck!

The best thing is the big tank with hose and pump, too bad it isn't portable!

I have plenty of the old style plastic cans so I haven't seen these yet.

Question - If they're ventless, how do they release pressure in the can when the temp rises? I keep the vent open on all my gas cans during the summer. If I don't, they blow up like a balloon.

Thinking of the mowers and stuff I have that use gas, if I recall correctly, each has a vent in the cap. Isn't this vent for the same reason (as well as to let air in so as not to cause a vacuum when the fuel is used)?

The Eagle cans at the top of the link shown have a spring that holds the cap shut. The funnel can be easily removed. Pressure or vaccum does happen, but it does not have an effect on the can. I suppose if it got hot enough the cap would simply crack open a bit. I have yet to have yet happen to my knowledge. My only recommendation is that you crack the cap by pulling the handle prior to using it. This relieves the pressure or vaccum. After that your ready to pour and its easy to instantly stop the flow by letting the cap snap shut.

Ken, I'm with you, many of those gas cans are terrible. Leaking spouts, leaking caps and lousy hoses.

Yup, my biggest complaint is those stiff long skinny yellow fill nozzles. What were they thinking? I haven't found a tank yet I could fill with them without spilling when the tank is full.

I have flexible one but it won't stay bent in the right shape while using it. Had a valve one that had a hook, does the on-off thing nicely but it leaks around the tank neck.

We should get out there and design some new nozzles!

I use a 30 gallon tank and pump to fill my tractor, no more lifting a 5 gallon can and hoping the nozzle is going to hit the fill neck. No doubt new nozzle material is needed to make a well designed, flexable, stay put shaft. My old Gerry cans had OK nozzles and of a size that could fill large tanks quickly but small tanks poorly.
