What is the proper antifreeze to use. There are so many different types?

Manual just said to use ethylene glycol, which is basic antifreeze. I just bought the long life stuff at tractor supply. But, the same stuff was cheaper at walley world.

find out if your machine needs a cavitation / electrolysis addative.

soundguy

You mean for the flux capacitor intake modulator plenum?:D

Seriously though, I did not see anything about that in the manual so I don't think so. What is it for?

[QUOTEflux capacitor intake modulator plenum][/quote]

Some types of anti freeze may stop atomic sized bubbles from forming against the wall of the plenum, imploding and removing an atom of plenum material.:D

When this happens the atomic sized particles are absorbed into the capacitor and short it out resulting in expensive problems with the modulator.

It may also drive the owner to seeking alcohol to alleviate the problem!

Not to mention warping the space time continuum.

After sufficient Alcohol the tractor owner may also see flashing lights. This usually happens twice. Once when he's looking in the rear view mirror of his pick up and the second time when the officer asks him to step out of the vehicle whereupon in compliance he See's many feet on the ground and trips over an extra pair that appear to be his own but really aren't there! :D

I've been working at my 200 hr service as well. Mine is taking a lot longer since I dropped my oil pan (again!). This time I replaced the gasket and the pan - just in case. I'm getting good at dropping the pan but I don't want to have to rework this again or to go another 50 hrs with a small leak.

Should have followed soundguy's suggestion and waited to get a gasket from the dealer the last time around instead of reusing one. Soundguy - incase you are wondering, I don't think I will EVER reuse a gasket again.

I'm putting on hrs at about the same rate as you. Mine is 3 years old now. I last did the hyd filters and fluids at 50hrs - 2 years ago. As ccsial pointed out, the interval for hyd filters is 50 then 200 then 400 and every 200 from that point on. Dosen't make sense that if they are fine between 200 and 400 that they would need changing at 200 since we just changed them at 150.

I've decided to skip them at 200 and do them at 250 and every 200 hrs after that. I think I might change out my SUDT at that time as well though since it will have been 3 years since.

I'm not replacing lines as well since they look just fine. I tend to replace my air filter once yearly. Mine came with an outer filter only. The inner is optional.

.

There are times and places you save money.. a re-used gasket usually -isn't- one of those times.

Uh.. :) it's to prevent cavitation ( vibration formed micro air bubbles that erode metal surfaces.. has to do with vapor pressure and alot of other fluid mechanics stuff. and also electrolysis due to disimilar metals.. most of them are also ph ballancers as well.

Antifreeze, laugh, but there are compatibility problems and special applications that did not exist 10 years ago when ya just got the green stuff in the yellow jug

All my manuals are at the cabin, so I don't know what it specifically called for. The main thing it said about compatibility was not to mix two different brands because there could be a harmful (to the tractor) reaction.
