I have a Yanmar 147D and the longer it works on the farm the more enjoyable it is to own the little thing. That said, in order to use larger implements, the fleet needs to expand for things like using a tiller or yard plane, back blade, etc. What are your folks perceptions on the YM336D and YM276 models? I own a Case 1845C skid steer that can handle the big jobs and jobs requiring a bucket.

I've owned a lot of tractors. IMHO, the YM336D was the best little general purpose traditional tractor of any thing I owned or operated. Bulletproof throughout, great transmission, good balance, powersteering, great 3 pt., comfortable, quiet engine, perfectly matched loader...I could go on and on. Simply the best of the best.

I'm moving to the farm, and will most likely need a larger tractor. I will probably keep the 3110D it is a little work horse, and I'll able to get into places I can't get to with a larger tractor

Thanks for your help folks. I will keep an eye out for a Yanmar 336D, 3110D, or 3810D in the next six months to a year. One might come along. Your help and wisdom is always appreciated.

A farmer down the road has a YM2610 he said he might let go.....

When I see a farmer letting go of a utility tractor my first thought is always, "Why"?

Every farm I've ever seen has a medium size chore tractor for dozens of jobs. With power steering, power shifting, and all the other Yanmar benefits his YM2610 would seem perfect. So I wonder what feature he needs that this one does't have?

He's in his eighties and says it's time to retire and none of his children or grandchildren want the farm. He's selling his farm and just deciding on when to sell tractors/attachments, etc. He won't list the farm until later in the summer/early fall. We were talking at the local restaurant and Yanmar tractors popped into the conversation. He said that his tractor might fill the needs of my farm and wanting a larger one than the YM147D. Thanks for indicating it has power steering as he wasn't sure about that.

That's sad to see another family farm dissappear. That has to be the hardest decision of his life to sell his stuff and the farm. Too bad he can't life out his life there with a farm haND assisting him while he can and then a hand doing chores as he can watch it in his later years until he goes back home to his maker.

We purchased our farm from an 85 year-old farmer in the same situation. In our case, the farmer who sold us his farm still lives on the farm in the first house he lived in for 35 years. So he's still at home in his eyes. Unfortunately his old tractors left everything to be desired hence the need to replace them. Here's our old farmer when we went out to eat....

That's a nice story.

My uncle when he bought his property, basically inherited an old black sharecropper/farmhand when he did. That guy lived there his old life and had no where else to go. They let him live out his life in the same house he had lived in probalbly for 60 years or so. They would go see him every few days to talk and make sure he was ok.

I guess there is more of this that goes on than you think. ..Probably not as much as there was 30 to 40 years ago.

My family farm had one as well...he has died probably 50 years ago but he lived in a house thats now bulldozed (as in the case of my uncles too) in my back field.
