Hi all. I've been absent a few days trying to get my account here working. My Mcaffe privacy software may have been corrupting the site's cookies. Thanks for the info Muhammad.

I like many things about the new site. But here's a problem I'm having. I can't seem to get a threaded view of recent posts. The recent post selections seem to give a dump of the posts and are not organized by thread. Meanwhile, the main index gives a topic heading view. Many of the subjects I find interesting are under topics such as Kubota pricing, which isn't my thing. the only way I've found to view the threaded discussion headers is to go into each topic from the main index. Seems kind of awkward way to find a discussion about trailer loading under Kubota pricing.

Maybe there's is way to access recent threaded discussion headers that I haven't found. I have cruised the documentation, but maybe not enough. Any info appreciated. I know! The problem would go away if everybody stayed on-topic within the topic categories. Can't see that happening though. At least I know myself too well.

Tom,

Currently the recent message listings are by date. I am looking into getting a way to re-organize them as you can in the normal forum views. That way, you could sort by forum, date, poster, or subject.

As for listing recent messages in a threaded form, I am not sure. We would wind up listing many messages that weren't really recent. That is, if it could be done! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif But, I will look into it.

As for posts being posted in the incorrect forum, that's always going to happen. If users supported it, we could do moderation in the way of moving threads to other forums to keep them strictly 'on topic' - but this might cause confusion. (Post to one forum, and come back to see your message gone and moved somewhere else.)

Click on the "flat" button and you will at least be able to see all the messages on the thread. I have my default set at "flat", but find that when viewing "last 24 hours" messages I have to click on the "flat" button, otherwise I can only see one message at a time.

We could switch the defaults from being threaded and expanded views, to flat and collapsed, if that was a more popular choice.

I would prefer the default to be set to flat. It would save me having to load each page twice. This new format takes so much longer than the old one, it is taking the fun out of coming here.

Randy,

Register as a user, and you then can set your options to default to flat view. No problem for me.

I think if we could have the option of sorting flat mode in reverse date order so the most recent posts would appear at the top, we could lower the number of posts that are shown on a page so less bytes had to be transmitted with each access, and fewer overall accesses would have to be done, too - all of which should reduce the load on the server as well.

Yes, that would be an option - although I am still looking into reversing the date order. The first change would be to switch to flat mode, and then maybe to a collapsed view instead of threaded.

I will gather some more feedback on this and possibly make some changes within a few days.

I also struggled through the "unregistered defaults" and really hated it. After I registered and played around with the defaults it got a lot better. Flat, Collaspsed, last new posts at the top in the Index AND messages would be really handy. I still do not like the main ag site because it takes a 1000 keypresses to wade through the forums. Maybe you can register there and have it works as nice as this one. They have some excellent forums and topics - just don't have the patience to wade through each expanded topic - which is kinda like ours in that the topic and the message sometimes bear little resemblence to where the thread has gone and you need to quickly look at all of the messages (FLAT here).

The board is neat and good. Just the original defaults make it hard to figure out how nice this forum is. /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif
