Our danger words during renovations are "while we're at it". Small projects become large. Large projects become larger.

double it and add 25% to their numbers ....

In product development we have developed an aversion to the word "just". It always comes wrapped in a phrase like "can't you just add this feature/change that/use a different material/etc". And I often reply with "you JUST glossed over about x yrs of work with that one word 'just'...but it sounds so much easier when you say 'just'"

I thought the words "I do" stated infront of a church wedding audience were the most expensive words in the english language.............but "might as well" was probably the the three words thought of before we said "I do" ......:)
Yeah. "I DO" are two of the most expensive words in the English language; about equal to, "Oh sh*t" or "Aw sh*t", even though they are uttered after the expense condition has been incurred.

On the other hand, two of the most expensive single words are "Oops", and "Yes". "Yes" almost always precedes the expense. "Oops" always gets uttered afterwards.

My favorite is the replacement window commercial where they say..."Let us show you how we can save you thousands!" SWMBO decided that we MUST get an estimate from them. Before they arrived, I got a quote from a reputable (and personal friend) lumber store owner.

My wife also helped me replace the windows in one of our previous houses, so she knows how it's done. :D When they arrived, they counted the windows, wrote down a price, and kept adding to it until.... Viola! we qualified for the federal energy saver rebate program.

The final price per window was over 4X what the actual window should cost , and we could "$$save$$" money due to "Qualifying" for the rebate...

My wife politely asked them to leave....
