3-Point Hitch Three point hitch clearance on a 2520

   / Three point hitch clearance on a 2520 #11
I spent too much $ on some big, heavy duty chains that really work. They are a real pain to put on and the clearance is not much. I found it is easier to just not use them and have a load of pea gravel at the ready. Spreading a little helps not only the tractor traction, but also for everyone else... That said, if it doesn't get done early enough, someone forgets how icy it can get like my son a couple of weeks ago in the picture.

Hiya,

I have my buddy stopping by tomorrow so we can measure up the hubs to make a set of spacers. I have the wheels set wide and an I-Match. Without chains, no issues. However, I purchased a set of 4 link ladder chains and now they hit. (Well, they didn't hit, then they hit once. Now the chains are off and I have to repair one. lol)

We are going to make a set of 1" spacers and see how they work. After we measure them up, and finish them I'll post the drawings and pics. I'm a bit concerned that if we go to a 2" spacer the wheel may have too much leverage over the lugs and or the axle support bearing.

The pic with this post is what happens to the attaching hook when it hits the 3pt arm when plowing in high. I heard a "pop" and the tractor didn't slow a bit as it ripped the chain off.

Tom, that was my biggest worry about getting chains on my 2520. I don't know if you read a previous post (a few lines down here n the JD Owning Operating forum) but I mounted the 3ph arms on the inside of my iMatch hitch using 5" X 7/8" bolts and nylon lock nuts, Now I've got a good 2" of clearance from the link arms to tires in the highest position.

I'll keep it like this for winter while I got the chains on the tires... I might change it back to default come spring/summerl.

Can you POSSIBLE make 2 sets of these spacers?

I'll gladly buy a set if they are well built. I'm sure you could make some $$$ doing this!

I've been meaning to have my CNC department make up a set of spacers for a while now but I just haven't got around to measuring up the wheels and hubs. If you can give me the raw dimensions I can draw them up in Solidworks and send you the finished drawings.

Hi All.
New to TBN. Been lurking for months but now I finaly have something to add so I figured it was time to join.

I have the TSC version of the quick hitch on my 2520. The 3pt arms hit before I swapped tires but they are still closer now than I feel comfortable with. Personaly, I don't like the idea of having the turnbuckles turned tighter than a banjo string. I think having a little play is a good thing on some attachements (like the tiller)

So I measured the hub/wheel and drew up these spacers and sent them off to a local machine shop. See attached. This will give me 2 extra inches on each side. (Plus 60 extra pounds down low to help as ballast weight).

Should arrive in three weeks. I'll post pics and give a report then...

Nice drawing. How much is your machine shop charging you for a job like that? Also, what software did you use to make that drawing?

I drew it in Auto-Cad.

The machine shop is charging $400  (That's $100 an inch for you folks keeping score... )

That does not include Blanchard grinding the surface or turning the OD or even paint. So they will not have the fit & finish of something commercially made.

I'm guessing a guy with a torch and a drill-press could make the about same thing.

Looks good! You may want to consider a diameter turned down at the wheel side of your spacer that would fit into the rim.Would make it easier to line up the wheels and get the bolts started. I have made a three inch set of spacers for my 2520.The increased stability is unexplainable. Totally different machine now.I can also now run chains without a clearance problem on the three point hitch arms.Just need to get chains now.

Hi Hillstone,

Could you please post pics of your 2520 with 3" of extra clearance? i'm curious to see what it looks like from behind and the front. I bet it feels really PLANTED on slopes now!
