Three Point Hitch Pulsing

Once the 3pt is raised and the valve lever in neutral, the cyl should be locked, except for a components to keep the 3pt at a certain height.

Disengage any other lever you have there and see what happens.

Sounds like something is allowing fluid to adjust something.

With the lever in neutral, the fluid is supposed to flow to tank.

What do you think a hyd gage will show. The hyd pump should be pushing fluid to tank.

Now it sounds as if the RS piston seal is leaking.

JJ/TX,

Thanks for the help. My FSM should be here this week and I'll start looking into it closer. I'll keep you updated with what I find.

Thanks,
Ed

Finally got the FSM and parts catalog. Just ordered all the parts to replace all seals on the ROD valve, cylinder, relief valve and rockshaft control valve. The FSM says it's most likely the rockshaft control valve, but could be a leak in any of those parts. I'll start with most likely to least likely and replace as required. Thanks for the help so far, I'll keep you updated on what I find and provide any pictures, if required.

If it is any thing like the 4520 you can remove the top of the rockshaft housing rather easily. I had to put my linkage back together on mine as the bolts were not tight from the factory and fell into the lower sump. I picked the top cover off and set it down by myself without problems. I mention this because the parts are more accessible than you might think. Whenever I can fix a hydraulic problem for the cost of a tube of sealant I feel lucky.

As far as what the real problem is it sounds like all of us are in agreement as how to diagnose this. What I suggested on page one is being suggested again on page three.

All,

I finally have all the parts in to fix all any possible leaking seal between the cyliner and RCV. Looks like everything is accessible under the seat with removing only the seat and fenders. Quick question for hydraulic assembly. In cars, I'll lubricate o-rings with whatever fluid they'll be sealing. Is that true in this application? Should I put a small amount of hydraulic fluid on the rings/seals? before they go in? Does the RCV gasket require anything besides the gasket (silicon, etc.)?

Thanks,
Ed

All,

I'm finally down to the RCV cover. Got the cover off and spilled about two cups of hydraulic fluid. Quick question: is there supposed to be hydraulic fluid inside this cover or is it supposed to remain within the valve itself? I assume it's supposed to be within the RCV and not leak out into the cover, but I'm not anywhere near an expert.

Thanks,
Ed

One more update: New seals/gaskets/o-rings on the the RCV, RCV Cover, ROD Valve, Cylinder Head, Cylinder. No change, no leaks. 3PH drops slightly slower, but that may just be the new seals seating. The pulsing is still present with as little as 50 lbs on the TPH. TPH drops on shutdown, though noticably slower. At this point, I'm suspecting the actual RCV itself, but don't have the knowledge to now if that's the real problem. Anything new from the masses? Is it possible that a clogged filter could be causing this problem?

Thanks,
Ed

Is there a check valve in your system. It would be inside the case. If it is sticking it will cause it to do this. I have a Cub and it was having the same problem. It was the check valves in the hyd unit
