Thumb for JD #7 backhoe?

I am rebuilding a rock wall, and some of the rocks are 60-150lb range. is there a thumb for my little #7 backhoe on my JD855? I saw some that looked like they had to be welded on. is that the only way to attach them. I don't weld, maybe I can find someone who does? is there a bolt on option? will a thumb affect digging ability? figured I'd ask the pros. (That's U) will a welded on thumb ruin my backhoe in any way?

Ithink we have the same backhoe....With the taper on the dipperstick it would be really hard to make a clamp-on thumb bracket. I've been tempted to make up a thumb for mine but have been doing OK for 6-7 yrs without it. When I have a large rock I normally sling it with chain and set it in place.....

Here's some pictures of the thumb on my 110. I wouldn't see any way you could properly bolt a thumb on to a backhoe. I'd find an aftermarket kit and have a local welder put it on.

Although it appears to show only Kubota tractors they do make them for John Deere backhoes. I very recently contacted them to inquire about a thumb for my #46 back hoe and received a quick quote.
If you rerad the instructions they install in something like 10 minutes: bolt on

I have build a thumb myself. It is not build strong enough my son says :laughing he is an professional welder)
This thumb that is bolted on was made to see if it would work. Works great!
If I find some 1/4" steel sheet I wil make a better one.

For now I have done some amazing things with it. Need some practice though:laughing:

This looks awesome. I am sending out an email tonight. Hope they can make one fit my #7 backhoe.
