tick repellant

I will make a comment on Guineas. We had ticks something awful last year. I got 12 guineas in the early fall. We are now down to 3. But we have not had a tick one all summer. They patrol about 5 or so of my 20 acres.
One of the keys is to coop them up at night. That cuts down on them being just bait.
Now I just need to do something about the chiggers. Is there a spray I can just put on the yard that is close to the house?

I was just reading up on fire ants and discovered that they are very good at getting rid of ticks and fleas in their vicinity. This might very well be true because I have plenty of fire ants and no ticks or fleas around my place. So if any of you want to try it out, you can come over to my place and get all the fire ants you want, no charge.:D

Down here in Florida the locals tell you to fill an old sock with sulphur, then "dust" yourself, particilarly around your ankles, beltline, etc. where the nasty little ticks and chiggers like to latch on.

We did this regularly while hiking in the deeps woods and seemed to really work well.

Interestingly enough.. Those of us that own cows will get the yellow sulfur/salt blocks for them and it really really helps during mosquito season..

When we're in the bush logging( up here in mosquito county) we use WD40 oil ...seems to work and mix the saw gas a little oily so they smoke a bit ...Those little buggers hate that 2cycle smoke .
