I was wondering what the price is for a tiller. If I get one I will probally get a name brand like woods or Befco. I was looking at about a 52". I don't want to go to big but I don't want something small that it takes forever to till an area. Never looked at tillers so I am not sure what to look for. Any ideas on this? Average price for a good tiller? Anybody have a woods or befco tiller? Another brand tiller?

I bought a Sovema 48" unit from Eastern Farm Machinery up here for around US $1700 (they ship to the US). I got a relatively heavy duty unit - Sovema makes lighter and cheaper ones.

I bought 48" after I discovered that these things side - shift so you just adjust them to cover a rear tire and you are done. No reason to bog the tractor down with a 60" or more.

In any event, I am very satisified with my purchase. Using this thing I till my wife's one acre garden in well less than an hour: for good measure I do all my neighbour's as well.

Unless you are tilling acres and acres, don't worry about the time it will take: this is not a walk behind tiller. It takes more time to change attachments than to till an acre. Amazing.

Check out King Kutter tillers. TSC sells them, as well as other places. I don't have one of their tillers, but I have one of their brush hogs, and it's served me well even though I totally abuse it. King Kutter implements are well built, and usually very economical.

The Woods tiller is a Maletti & the Befco is a Rotomec. WE have a geardrive 49" tiller for $850 and shipping to VA would be around $70.

I just picked up a First Choice 48" at just ~$1000 w/a slip clutch (very important to me since we grow a lot of rocks). Only have an hour on it now, but it works great and is very quiet. So far, I'm very satisfied with it! /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

I priced the Woods 52" Tiller with a slip clutch for 1475.00. That was with another dealer not the dealer I have delt with. I am going to price the Befco T40 50" Befco with slip clutch. I will let you know what I find out. Thanks for all the help.

The CCM gear driven tillers that CCI sells seem to be the best value around. I wonder why there has not been much chatter about them?

Even though CCM tillers are heavily promoted in the TBN discussion areas, I haven't heard from anyone who owns one.

My observations: On the plus side, they look good in a picture & appear to have some substance to them for a very attractive price. On the downside, I've tried to find out who manufactures them, but so far I've been unsuccessful, which makes them an unknown quantity to me. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif
