hello, i just picked up a tiller(howard hr 7-50 hd) and noticed the recomended hp range is 22-35 hp so will this tiller self destruct on my 45hp tractor? i bought without researching as it was priced right
also is howard a good make? thanks

Yes, Howard is very good. If you go slow and use your head, you should not have any problems. Does it have a slip clutch? That would help protect it. How is the soil? rocky and or roots?

yes it does have slip clutch,soil is mixed bit of everything, i will search slip clutch and learn how to set up so i dont break chain hopefully, thanks

If it were me I'd just run it at lower than PTO speed. You really don't need that sort of engine speed to till anyway so keeping it about 500rpm shy of PTO speed would put you right back into the recommended horsepower range.

Dropping the PTO speed just a little like IT says will also save you a lot of fuel.

Yep, fuel and noise and wear on the tractor. I probably run PTO speed (2500-2600) for 5% of what I do and the rest is done perfectly well at 1800 (BH, loader work) to 2100-2200 (most mowing). I also prefer not listening to the full tilt boogie at PTO speed which is noticably louder even with appropriate ear protection.
