Hi guys. My dad is selling his 3301 and offered me his tiller, it's a land pride rtr1258. I'm just wanting some opinions on running it behind the bx2670.
Do you think it'll be too much for it. I have ballast in the tires and I can always leave the loader on for front weight. The soil is pretty soft without a lot of clay. It's free and only a year old so I'm hoping it'll work.
Thanks in advance for any help, Dan

Landpride says the tiller takes 20-40hp. I run a 60" tiller on a 28hp tractor with 23 PTO HP. Runs it with no problems. It has never once bogged down the engine. Landpride does not say if the HP needed is engine or PTO, but you are at least at the minimum for the tiller. I say go for it and try it out. Tilling is a slow speed job, so you take it easy. My guess is your biggest issue may be picking it up. I would definitely leave the loader on to keep your front end on the ground. I think you have nothing to lose!

As long as you've got the clearance to hook up the tiller you'll be fine.

My nephew took his tiller off his L2601 and uses it on his BX1870 and I use a Landpride 50", smaller than my nephews, on my BX2370. No issues with picking up or tilling in untilled ground which is not powder soft. Neither he or I have FELs or extra weight but have the mid mount mowers installed and locked at their highest position.

Thanks guys. I will give it a try this spring. I agree, nothing to lose trying it out. I've used quite a few tillers I just wasn't sure about the weight but land pride lists it at 425lbs so I'll just take it easy until I see how it goes. Thanks again, Dan

On my 2370 and now 2380, I use the RTR 1250. If on an uphill incline, the loader will help keep you balanced or from getting too tippy. I used to have the RTR1260 on my L3800 and in hindsight, I think the smaller tractor could still handle it. May go a little slower, but it was already paid for. Instead I bought the smaller one when I bought the smaller tractor and sold the bigger one with the bigger tractor.

Especially for free, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Tried hooking a Priefert tiller up with the bigger diameter tines to a neighbors BX2360 for him and it would not lift up enough for him and the PTO angles would not work between the lowered and raised positions the drive shaft did not have the proper overlap. Take the PTO shaft tractor half without cutting and mount the tiller and measure the lengths to make sure that they work out without binding before cutting the shaft down.

I know it's not a tiller, but for what it's worth, I got a 62" flail mower (~650lbs) I use on my BX2200, and it turns it and lifts it fine. According to the manufacturer, they say minimum 20 PTO HP. My tractor has a "claimed" 16.7 PTO HP. I've cut some thick grass with it and it does a very spectacular job.

With that being said, those PTO HP listings are suggested ratings I found. I go by this saying, "if it lifts it, it'll turn it".

But with one caveat... if it says MAX PTO HP, that is one you really need to abide by or you'll break your implement. But usually most CAT 0/I implements gearboxes are rated Max 45HP PTO HP anyways.
