I have a 5 HP walk behind and a 3pt 42" hydraulic tiller behind a large garden tractor. It takes a while to attach the 3PT tiller but the time saved using that is considerable. If it was just a matter the time difference saved I probably wouldn't even hook it up, but the job is incredibly better using the 3PT. The walk behind ends up with clumps where the 3pt makes the garden almost powder smooth and makes it more enjoyable working in the garden with little bitty seeds.
Botabill said:I bought a new BCS 8 HP rear tine 28 years ago and used it without any problem on my gardens until I started using green manure / cover crop practices and expanding into new ground a few years back. Plowing sod and these cover crops left big furrows that were a real challenge to til at my advanced age so I bought a 60 inch 3 PTH tiller. Works great but I won't get rid of the BCS. It is used more hours on average per year than the 3 PTH tiller. When a row matures early and I need to replant the row the walk behind is the only way to do it. I also have an ancient 5 hp troy built walk behind I use to scuffle weeds out between the row crop. Point is you can't have too much machinery. To help justify owning a 3 PTH tiller I custom til for folks charging $60 per hour. I think they are getting a great deal and I save them a lot of work doing it themselves with smaller equipment.
Those BCS are amazing machines. The no-belt walk behind tiller is real nice.
Do you have an accessories for your BCS?
