Do any of you have a favorite or can recommend a HEAVY commercial brand of tiller? I have a Kubota L5740 that will be running this tiller. I have a Woods SGT80 I am very disappointed with. I have had it 4 years and used it sparingly. The tailgate has a crack in it and the PTO shield has vibrated off. So much for a commercial grade unit. I contacted Woods to find out this tiller is not made by them and naturally it is out of warranty. It Is made by Maletti. I told Woods I think this tactic is pretty poor. I made a purchased based on your reputation, not the reputation of Maletti. I have been told Sicma and Maschio make good tillers. Specifically I was being steered to the Maschio c205. Anybody have an experience with either of these tillers?

I have one coming from ETA. It is large deluxe box frame disc. It will be shipped tomorrow. I personally like the tiller, just very unhappy with Woods at this point.

If you still want a heavy duty tiller look at the KING KUTTER'S.

They are all gear drive with slip clutches. They use straight cut steel gears in the drop box, NO CHAINS.

I have about 200 hours on mine , almost due for some new blades. I've tilled rocks ,bricks, and concrete blocks, without problems. Tripped the slip clutch a few times that's all. once a year check and adjust the slip clutch per the manual, change the gear box oil every couple of years and you'll be good to go for a long time.

Few with tractors would need a PTO Tiller AND a Disc Harrow. They are more-or-less interchangeable, with the Disc Harrow being a little faster covering large areas, PTO Tiller more maneuverable in square shaped garden situations.

I hope you specified 22" pan diameter for your ETA Disc Harrow, either notched front and notched rear pans, or notched front and smooth rear pans. Weight is everything in Disc Harrow effectiveness.

If you don't use it much, purchase another pto shield (plastic and easy to swap) and weld the crack. Your disappointed in a product but have not said anything bad about the meat and potatoes of the tiller.

I have a Sicma brand 65'' tiller. I purchased it used .This thing is a beast above and in the ground. Tilled into bricks, rocks, roots and even buried horse shoe stakes. Eats and throws all out the back with no damage to this tiller . It is to small for your tractor as it will not cover your tracks but I am sure they make larger sizes. As some say the King Kutter is good also. If I would not have got such a good price on this one King Kutter is the way I would have gone. Good luck on your search.

I have an Ansung 74" tiller that I use on my L5740. I use it quiet a bit in my business. Probably till up to 100 acres a year with it. I like it very much.

It is a much more heavy duty tiller than the Bush Hog brand tiller that it replaced.

I get a kick out of folks who think gear drive in these smaller tillers is better than chain drive!! Just isn't so!!

You want a HD tiller, buy a Kuhn!! Now, they have good tillers, but they won't be Woods, Bush hog or KK price!, but they are worth paying more for!

Personally, I have three older Howards, and in their day, no farm tiller was better!

Have you looked at befco tillers? I have just purchased one from Eric (SmallTrac) on here and have been super impressed with it. Quality built, heavy duty. No complaints as of yet.

I feel your pain about steel cracking and fatiguing, but I would hang onto the tiller and patch it up. Aesthetics are second to function, and today's steel is probably worse than that.

I appreciate recycling and the effort behind it, but something really stinks about modern steelmaking... of course thickness isn't where it used to be either. Overbuilding used to be the rule, now that the cost is so high, it is difficult to put 3/16 where 10 gauge would work. Time shows the difference--implements, hitches, plows, bedframes--even drip-edge thickness is fractional to what used to be standard.

I have a King Kutter II and have no complaints--set the clutch and it slips when it has to, and shudders up over ledges and obstructions until you raise the draft. Paint is awful, but weight is fair for the size (690# for the 60 inch) and they have a full support across the top for the gearbox, six tines per flange and seven flanges on a five footer. Fluffs the soil up well.

Unless you're putting hundreds of hours on it, and plan on making some money with the new unit you can't with the old, I'd look to save some money.
