Time for a New Truck

When was that? Dodge had tranny issues years ago, but recently?

I guess I shouldn't say bad but not as good. Allison is the best IMO. They have Allison's in International semi's so I'd like it in my pickup too. Dodge makes a good pickup though, nothing against Dodge.

We have Allison's in most of our fire engines; aint the same Alli in the Duramax pickups.

The Duramax/Alison combo was good for the market overall. I don't know that the sized down Alli is any better than the rest. But... It did get past the 4spd auto's. For all the smack talk over the years about the Dodge trannies, I never had any issues. But, I have never liked the big jump from 3rd to OD. IMHO, that extra gear was a bigger deal than any strength in the tranny

Funny. Thats like saying my F-350 is better because the monster truck Big Foot is a Ford or like me saying my Nissan Titan is tough because Nissan also makes Excavators.:confused2:

Its a good tranny but its 95% marketing hype.

No, I think what he is saying, if I can elaborate, is some of the technology crosses over. If they feel comfortable with that tech in 1/4 million dollar over the road trucks and equipment than it should build some confidence in the consumers for the 1 ton and 3/4 ton market. I would love to have a F350 single wheel with a cummins and allison, but those 3 will never get along.

While I agree with the Allison being a good tranny it does have its limits. Read some of the new reviews and truck shoot outs and most reviewers are really praising the Ford Torque Shift 6 speed over it.

My deam truck would be my 06 F-350 with a built 5.9L Cummins and the 6 speed Torque Shift.

The big foot comparison is a little far fetched, that's like saying my stock Chevy impala is just as fast as the ones on the race track - although they have the same badge nothing else is the same. I do realize that it's a scaled down version, not so much in my 4500 medium duty, but it is still the best tranny. Theres way more similarities between the full size and the 1/2 to 3/4 ton trucks as they are still all built/designed by Allison and the monster truck isn't.

I'm not saying other trannys are bad but I like my Allison

I had the 5 spd torque shift in my 06, it was trouble free. We can all agree on the cummins, that is for sure. I believe they are being discontinued by dodge in 2013, or so I've heard, haven't seen it etched in stone.

Does this mean they will get iveco now ?

This "rumor" goes around a lot...
The only diesel that Dodge will not have built by Cummins is the small 1/2 ton diesel engine. They will be using a Fiat based diesel instead. I wouldn't mind the larger Fiat diesels either, they are more popular in Europe than the Cummins is here.

I can not see Cummins lasting much longer in the Dodge trucks. I live only 40 miles from Cummins headquarters and have a few friends that work for them. They feel they are on borrowed time also.

Like you said, nothing wrong with the Fiat based motors but it will surely take a heck of a sales campaign to keep the customers coming in. That motor is legendary.
