Paul,
I run a 5 ft. Howse behind my B8200 with no problems on very hilly ground on three ac. I only cut grass and use it about once a month. I have a front loader for weight and have put everything on the trailer to get it somewhere with no problems. Also my brother uses a 5 ft. cutter behind his B2400. I don't think you will have a problem with the 3 pt. as you are only lifting it about 5% of the time, and the rest of the time the rear wheel is on the ground.

I would go with door number three if the dealer will flex on the price. Most dealers will--throw an offer at him all he can say is no.

Bird,

I thought you lived by the 5 hp/ft rule? That would mean that Paul could get about a 3 2/5 ft rear cutter.

I do enjoy posting with PaulB from time to time and I can't help but get a picture in my head of the 5' rotary cutter behind that 17 hp (13 pto) Kubota sitting on the ground and Paul on the tractor spinning around! /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif In my opinion, the 5' rotary is too big for a B1700 or a TC18 for that matter! Too much wipping action involved in a rotary cutter no matter that you're only mowing grass. /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif

Jim I must say that was a funny mental image---good one.

PaulB,

Just thought I'd let you know that the Kubota brochure I have does not list a rotary cutter on the implement chart, however, it does show a picture of a B2400 pulling what appears to be a Woods Rotary cutter of about a 4' width!

This comes to you from my "for what it's worth department"!/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Good Luck, JimBinMI

Right, Kubota doesn't offer the rotary cutters for the B-series anymore - you'd have to go back to the BXX50 series of the early-90's for a cutter.

JimBinMi, that would be an interesting sight to see, wouldn't it?/w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif When I had the B7100 I considered buying a 5' finish mower. My dealer strongly advised against it because of the weight of the implement, not the lack of horsepower; however, he said he did have some customers using a 5' mower that were satisfied with them; just that they couldn't pick them up with the 3-point without lifting the front wheels on the tractor.

Goes with my old saying, 'don't put anything that weighs more than the tractor itself on the back.' /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif

Paul,

My dealer said not to go larger that 4' on the B2100. He also can sell the woods XT148 for $900 (with $110 slip clutch for nothing). I got another price after JimBinMI's advice of $599 (no slip clutch). I like the idea of the 4' cutter for manuverabillity around trees.

PaulB--I have a friend that has a ford 1510, which is heavier than your B1700, and my B2400. The first Tuesday of this month he took his 5' rotary mower to sell at the auction in Rogers, Ohio. He got $350.00 for it and bought a new 4' woods rotary mower. Got tired fighting with it, even with front weights it was too much. He has 15 acres, 12 horses. Everything is pasture except the yard around the house.
