Does anyone know of anything that can help the ringing in my ears? Actually mine has progressed to more of a brake squeal noise at all times. I don't hear high pitched sounds anymore. 30 years in construction and way to many gunshots with no hearing protection when I was younger, including shots from inside a pickup truck.

Drop some drano in your ears and flush...Just kidding.

I tried the drano but it just burned and foamed and made a mess. And my ears are still ringing. I'll try anything!

Make sure none of your medications if you take any cause tinnitus as a side effect. Then try to see an ENT/otolaryngologist and have an audiogram to ensure you do have a nerve hearing loss causing the tinnitus. There may be benefit to tinnitus coping methods, a hearing aid or a tinnitus masker. It sounds likely to be from noise exposure causing hearing loss, sometimes treating the hearing loss can make it more tolerable.
This is not medical advice and I urge you to see a professional.

Hearing aids help, but DO NOT completely eliminate the tinnitus. I first saw a doctor for tinnitus (didn't even know it had a name at that time) about 1980 or 81. I got my first pair of hearing aids in 1992 ($1,630), my second pair in 2001 ($1,800), my third pair in 2006 ($4,588), and my current pair Thursday ($4,000 after an $800 discount).

It will probably continue to progress. At first it was just ringing in my ears, but not real loud. And now . . . well, imagine that you're sitting under a big tree full of cicadas, so many that their chirp is a steady constant sound instead of a chirp that comes and goes. And imagine that tree is about two or three hundred yards from an Interstate Highway with bumper to bumper traffic going 70 miles an hour 24/7; making a cross between engine noise and wind noise. And on the other side of that Interstate is an old 2 cylinder John Deere (a poppin' Johnny) idling. And then you'll have an idea of what mine has progressed to in the last 30 years.

It's a terrible noise when I get up in the morning, but with the hearing aids and other sounds, I can pretty well ignore it during the day.

I tried hearing aids. I never bought them because I also have hyper sensitive hearing. Some things seem very loud and other sounds I miss completely. The hearing aids just made EVERYTHING loud and unbearable. . I can relate to your description of your tinnitus. We have cicadas here too. When they're in full song, I put in earplugs. Sucks.

The hearing aids just made EVERYTHING loud and unbearable.

Then you had the wrong hearing aids and/or the wrong person programming them. The ones I got in 2001 were from an audiologist in a doctors office and they were outright crooks; said they were programmable and they were nothing more than volume.

But the ones I got 6 years ago, and the ones I just got actually are programmable and I got them from an audioprosthologist and a hearing instrument specialist. The new ones have 3 programs and th 6 year old ones have 2.

I have Meniere's disease accompanied by tinnitus.

I take Lipo-flavonoid tablets (available at Walmart).
They're not cheap (around $26 for a bottle of 100), but they do seem to help some.
