I am concerned about the my tractor having a hard time moving in the snow this Winter. I have only had it since May so I have had to encounter snow. I have the 402 FEL and my rear tires are loaded. I will also be dragging a Woods RB72 on the back. The RB weighs about 300 pounds. Should I be concerned about getting around without chains? What would a set of chains cost for the rear tires? Any options other then rear chains?

Thanks,
Dave

What kind of tires do you have? If Industrials, I wouldn't worry about chains...same with Ags.

Reckon you have standard turf tires... Even then, I'd go a season to see how you make out in any snowfalls.

I've got bar turfs...reckon I could use chains, but I'm never in any big hurry when I plow so I'll forgo those chains.

Try a season...see how it goes. Next year, you'll either get chains or realize you don't need 'em.

I have R4 Industrial tires.

I have used chains with other botas and I had to get spacers for the rear wheels so that the chains would clear. Also, if you are using fourwheel drive and you only chain up the rear won't you throw off the ratio between front and rear? Just a thought as I do not know for sure.
Chains, if you go that route, will cost around $75-100. Also, you have to be careful not to spin the wheels on tar drives as that will dig up the tar.

Here is a thread on tire chains.
Who needs chains??? I DO!
27-2910's have little clearance between fender bolts and tire. This is more of a problem with Turf tires. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif
Tensioners will be required for all tire types to make sure that chains do not come loose and hit the fender bolts.
Spacer can be added for more clearance between tire and fender.

My TC30 has turfs (the same size used on the Kubota 2910). My tires are loaded and I have not needed chains to remove snow. (one season of experience). My driveway is very flat.

Forgot to mention, I have a set of chains for front and rear Turf tires on my 2910.
I have never used them since buying them 3 years ago. /forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Spacers are installed just in case rear chains are needed.

I have R4s on my B2910, and need chains in the winter or even in the fall...on the slopes I have when they get soggy...

As a matter of fact I just put them on yesterday. I got them from tirechains.com as mentioned in that thread the Ron pointed at.

The cost was something like $250 if I remember right [including the better adjusters??]. You can go to their web site and get the price. There are not a lot of options for the tire size on the b2910. Cross chains were about all that was available. I bought the two link ones.

They actually sent the next size up and I ended up shortening them. Not a big deal to do if you have bolt cutters, as the side chains are not hardened.

By the way, I put the chains on a little early this year as we are leaving on vacation this week and I wanted to have that chore out of the way before the cold weather gets here...

I guess the only way you can know if you need chains or not is to try it without and see what happens. One uncontrolled slide down a wet, soggy, grassy slope was all it took to convince me... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Clearance has not been a problem for me with the R4 tires. I don't have spacers on the wheels, but the r4s are not as wide as the turfs... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

When snow melts then freezes and become ice that is when you need chains. where you live I am not sure how severe the winters are. But like everyone has said try it for 1 season. I have a pair of Valbi Diamond ice chains for my 3830 rear tires. they cost around $500. a pair, they sure are good on ice or mud. I need them cause my driveway 2/10 mile is up hill.
