TIRE CHOICE 2210

Makes me wonder "bigpete" if the problem is with availability of the rear R1 tires from Titan since you received your 2210 with extra front R1 tires.

That's a real good possibility. The demand for small (front) bar tires is certainly less than the demand for 26" rears what with all the two-wheel drive garden tractors out there and only a few sub-compact size models. Titans are now coming with the Carlise name right next to it so they could still be running production from two different plants. Supply chain issues? Labor?

Also, the lug pattern is a little different on the new fronts than the old Titan rears. My rears are definately a more aggressive tread, even though all four tires are "Titan Tru-power" bars. Attached is an overhead pic of the old-style rear tread. I'll follow with an overhead of the new style tread on my fronts.

bigpete,

Your front tires are like the front and rears on my Kubota BX2200. They probably came up with a new design that gets good traction plus be a little easyer on turf. Mine work well for mowing my yard without doing damage. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

I think that's exacly it, and most people would be fine using the new Carlise Tru-power tread depending on how firm their soil is. My soil is pretty sandy with a high water table, so even less agressive bar tires would cause problems on my lawn.

I do have to say that, since I have the mounted turfs available for most work over my lawn, that it's nice to have the real agressive old-style tread for snow and dirt work. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Here's a profile shot to show just how agressive the old Titan Tru-powers are. A small hydraulic jack and jackstands make the changeover pretty quick. I put the bars on the 2210 last night in a little over twenty minutes because we're expecting 8-10 inches of snow over the next two days.

Well my wait is finally near the end. My dealer called yesterday to let me know my 2210 has shipped. Looks like John Deere must have received its shipment of R1 tires because that is what my order was waiting for.

Thanks Bigpete for all the great pictures. The new tread pattern should meet my needs just fine. The moles tear up the lawn for me more than I suspect the tires will!

bigpete,

The old-style tread sure looks like it should get a grip. I could have used those on my old JD 318 a few times around our farm pond that we mow. Had to pull it out with the truck a few times when the turf tires balled up with mud and called it quits. I don't have that problem anymore with the bars and four wheel drive, thank goodness. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif Do you have liquid ballast in your rear bars? I have 70lb. wheel weights on mine but that would be a hassle to change tires back and forth if you had to mess with the weights each time. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Michael,

Glad to hear the good news. I know how you feel waiting for the new arrival. Almost like anticipating the birth of a newborn baby. Hope you have many years of enjoyment from it. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
