Too bad you couldn't have shreded the 1-2" stuff.. the shredders leave a crushed shattered stump that won't usually poke tires, and does a good job at killing the tree.. vs a clean cut wich sometimes liets suckers grow right up from it without killing the tree.

I've cleared a wooded area leaving stumps from 1 to 4" high and .5 to 6" in dia. I'm thinking if I bring up the tractor to BH out the stumps, I may puncture the tires. Tires are barred. Is there a good possibility I'll puncture the tires if I run over the smaller dia. stumps?

BH = backhoe.

I have a gc2310. According to the description above, my tires sound like R4s, so if they're more durable, that provides some comfort.

That term you used, MORE DURABLE just means that it will cost you more to fix when you tear it up. Thinking you are running ballons for tires might be better, as your going to be a lot more careful. I would still start at one edge and work my way across the field.

When I am doing something like that I use my FEL to push my way thru. Most times you can hook the 2-5" trees at the base (after you have pushed them over)with the bucket and push them out by the roots as you go. I do this all the time for building trails.
Our soil is mostly rock and clay sand. It surprising how big a tree you can push over, removing roots and all. For those that I can't move, I try to go around and come back to them when I have the hoe on. A bit of digging around the roots and 12-18' maples are no sweat. Poplars and birch seem to have a wider root structure which means a bigger hole and more root pruning. Oaks I try to save...
