Some 3/8" chain designs do increase the wheel diameter very slightly. However the difference in the circumference ratio for the resulting wheel sizes would be even smaller than in BX's example above, and should not be a concern.

Thanks for the reply, lp333.

Also keep in mind, that when using chains you get some slippage as the chains lift the tire off of hard surfaces, or in snow/ice you also get slippage. Bottom line - don't worry about chains changing tire ratios.

This has got me curious. Do 3/8" chains on front and rear tires affect tire rotation/gearing to any significant degree? I'm assuming that it doesn't given the wide use of traction chains on tractors.

Again, you would (SHOULD !) only be using 4WD when traction conditions are such that there is slippage anyway, NOT on concrete or black-top.
Adding chains does not add significant rolling circumference, if you HAVE TO use hard road to get to/from wherever while chains are on, go to 2WD anyway.
As long as the front has the right amount of lead over the rear you should be OK.

Does anyone know what the front/rear drive train ratio is for a Kubota L3710 GST? I called my local Kubota dealer today and spoke with the service department and owner and was told that Kubota does not give out this info to dealers.

Thanks,
Jim
If you have a Kubota shop manual, surely they will have the ratio in it. All the MF shop manuals that I have list the ratio.

If the ratio cannot readily be found, it can be easily calculated based on the size of the OEM tires.

Jerry, I do have the shop manual and have been looking through it but can't find this info. What section is it in? I've looked in the transmission section, the general section under Tires but can not find it.

Thanks,

Jim

All of them that I have looked at had the numbers in the front part of the transmission section. It will more than likely be some kind of chart.

The dealer will still void warranty if you go with larger tires. A key issue that hasn't been mentioned is that changing the tire size (larger) increases the hystat system pressure, which shortens the transmission life. If you have any problems, the dealer will point at your non-approved tires and you'll be paying the bill...

Can anyone suggest a good after market / good price, turf or, semi turf tire high ply for my little Bota BX 1500?

I really don't like the factory AGs on it. I have found from past experience turf tires are much better on snow ice and all around use. Thanks
