I was wondering what the experienced guys thought of turf tires vs. the r4 industrial tires? One of the dealers I was talking too was pushing the r4. I feel I will be doing
80+% mowing, the rest with a loader and landscaping. If the r4 tires don't tear up the lawn I guess I would not mind them.

My R4 tires are capable of doing some damage to my lawn, especially if it is wet.

I don't use my tractor for lawn mowing, but I do cross my lawn occasionally with the tractor. When I need to do that, I try to do it when the lawn is dry. If it's dry I don't have any problems. I also avoid doing a lot of turning when I need to drive on the lawn.

My land is hilly and I use my tractor mostly for FEL work. The R4s are great for my needs. I do brush cut a logging trail in my woods, but I don't care if the tires leave tracks there.

Welcome to TBN. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
Here is a thread on the subject. Click Here.
I use my B2910 with turfs. The R-4's will wear better. I had to replace the front tires after doing a lot of loader work on black top. Only had about 250 hours. I still prefer turfs.

My R4 tires do a lot of damage to my lawn, I would stay with the turfs if your going to mow that much or you will end up with a lot less to mow

Sounds like you aren't looking at a subcompact, as most of those dealers call the tires for them turf and bar. One thing I noticed when I finally got my bar tires after logging about 30 hours with turfs was that on the small machine, I actually like the bars better for mowing. The reason is that they flatten down the grass significantly less than the turfs do, so I actually get a better overall cut with the bars than with the turfs.

However, the bars on true R4's are much wider than the bars on the subcompacts, so I would venture to guess the R4's will flatten the grass almost as much as the turfs on a compact and larger machine.

Since 80% of your tractor use will be mowing, I think you'll be fine with the turfs. Once you start doing a lot of dirt work, the turfs begin to become less desireable.

I use my Kubota 7800 to mow about 4 acres with MMM. I have R-4's and the rears are loaded. I mow my grass at around 3". Unless I go into a turn pretty hard and cut the wheels sharp, I don't have a problem with it tearing up the sod. You just have to be careful when it is wet which with a hydro you just slow up a little in the turn. I do like the stability of the tractor with the R-4's especially using the loader. The R-4's will stiffen up the ride a little though.

I have a TC29D with R4's and use it all the time for mowing. In fact I do more mowing than I do anything else. I have no visible signs of tearing up any grass. The weight of my tractor will leave ruts if I go across it wet but so does my neighbors tractor with turfs. They are about the same weight. I saw a comparison one time and I sure wish I could find it again about turf versus industrial and the differences on grass were not that much different. In fact the article talked about tight turns and how the industrial actually tore up less grass. I personally don't think you would see much difference.

What does your lawn mowing consist of? Hills, evenings with dew on grass, or any other adverse conditions. This all needs to be weighed out when deciding on tire choises. take info gathered here and consider your own conditions to make a choice you can live with.
