maybe im confused you mean you just cant get the nut off? or this is the rim that has one bolt and you can get the rim to slide off the shaft?

These rims are very delicate. To be read as easily ruined. Does not take pounding well.

I am confused.
Is it a nut or a bolt?

If it is a nut, can you put a nut splitter on it? Also, I have cut nuts off with a dremal tool.
Bolts can be drilled out. just start with a center punch and small drill bits and get bigger until you you get very, very close to the treads. Heat from the drill and very thin metal left from the bolt usually will let it come out.

If you have access to good impact wrench that would be first choice. If you have some off already then you should be turning the correct direction but once in a while you will find left hand threads. Totally agree with ch1ch2 suggestions.

I'd spray PBlaster, whack it a couple of times, put a good tight 6 point socket on it w/ a pipe extension, whack it BOTH ways, to tighten AND loosen, spray, repeat a few hours later. But then I don't usually have a torch handy to heat with.

Ya how many 12 point bolts have you seen in your life. I have seen some in my 41 years. By some. I mean one time.

as someone earlier stated, tighten as hard as you can with leverage and then loosen with leverage. works most every time. might just have to find someway to cut or grind nut off.

Harley Davidson uses them a lot.

Older ratchets had far fewer teeth. So you had to swing the ratchet in a longer arc to engage the next tooth. In confined spaces occasionally you would need a 12 point socket to get the right leverage. Some bolts you can't get off with a 6 point socket and course tooth ratchet. Which is why 12 point sets were far more common.

It's not a problem today since even the cheaper HF ratchets have 72 teeth or more. But 12 point sockets still have an occasional use for me when I need to use a breaker bar in a tight space.
