Hello,
I have a TN55s (cab) model. The ROPS have at least a couple of these connectors. Mine is a 99 or 2000 (first year - can't remember which it is). FWIW.

I want to use my aux connections (in this case, for a 12v diesel pump/tank). The load is rated at 22 amps.

The operators manual didn't seem to cover much/anything about the 2 pin (pin and sleeve, next to the 3 point hitch controls), the 4 pin (on the left rear of the inside of the cab, above the 3 point hitch controls), nor the outside mounted trailer plug (see above). I guess the operator needs to just be smart enough to connect them and that's all. The mechanic will make it all work sweat heart, just plug/unplug as required.

I tried using my volt meter (key on and off) and couldn't find a hot lead on the 7 round pin connector (generic number as a reference is 5407s for the tractor side; 5407p for the trailer/implement side). My 'best solution' would be to replace this connector with a 7 blade rv style to run my pump (then the pump can be connected to my pickup if I am filling it instead). I don't need another connector style. That assumes the power lead has the current rating I want.

Here's a link to a generic wiring diagram: https://www.etrailer.com/static/ima...-diagram-connections-hdbranded-copy_2_500.jpg

I have yet to check the pin outs on the 4 pin connector in the cab, but the generic part number is s.56470 or just 56470 for the plug (cable/implement side). This seems like my most likely plug to get the power I want.

The 2 pin (pin & sleeve/coaxial) connector is just a DIN cigarette lighter socket. Plugs are cheap enough to find as a generic online (with a little work you could likely just change it to a North America cigarette light outlet/socket if hte pigtail is a common type). This is reported as an 8 amp rated plug for a roof mounted rotating beacon.

What I am looking for is:

Pin outs for each, with current rating of 'power' leads.

Power lead switched or always on. Easy to confirm on my own, but if someone already knows....

Where the related fuses are.

If not hooked up by default (I have had trucks like that) where the leads should be found.

Some of the fuse/relay information was in the user manual, but not all. I have yet to look in the repair manual I have, but I anticipate continued disappointment and regret for having even opened it (past experiences have lowered my expectations; usually not as far as they should have).

A few items are found here, though if you know of differences, pleas list them. If nothing else maybe the information is here for the next person.

I found this on the 4 pin:

  • Pin 1 (Red wire): Constant 12V or 24V power from the battery.
  • Pin 2 (Brown wire): Switched 12V or 24V power, controlled by the ignition key.
  • Pin 3 (Black wire): Ground.
  • Pin 4 (Often unused or another ground): Could serve as a secondary ground or be left open for future use.

Here is what the standards are for 7 pin ag connectors. I borrowed it from a JD manual. I cannot comment on if the pins are switched, but I would assume they are so you do not drain the battery when hooked to a trailer.

I wonder what the maximum rating is for pin 7? Probably somewhere out there online for the connector model, regardless of the application (tractor wiring).

I looked it up, for legal truck use, this is the wire gauges and other information for the 7 round pin connector:
The plug for SAE J560 is physically identical to the connector ISO 1185. The difference is that J560 indicates that the voltage must be 12 V and that wire areas shall be larger due to the higher currents needed when using 12 V compared to 24 V. Some of the pins in the connector have also a slightly different function.

The functional differences are small, but the difference in voltage and current requirements makes the SAE J560 and ISO 1185 incompatible without the use of additional equipment in the form of voltage converters. It is also necessary to pay particular attention to pin 7.

In ISO/EU land pin 7 is for a brake controller. And that's likely the latest revision, versus the ~1998 version. No idea what spec our tractors were built to. But I suspect it's EU based, not USA based. USA the wire gauge is 10 AWG. That's pretty stout compare to a 15ga (which one would have to look hard for).

Without looking into the relays under the dash to confirm, and AFTER I took a look at the wires to the connector, I would say this connector is not rated as a 'standards' connector. Just a convenient connector style to use that might be found in a lot of tractor/heavy equipment service shops. Bummer I guess.

FWIW, I came up with this set up:

'SAE' extension with mount. Probably could have been shorter, but the price difference just didn't matter. I'll clip off the other end and use it somewhere else. I'll snake it into the cab, then use the 4 pin connector (above the lift controls). Plug it in as required. Just makes everything common and simple.

The pump wire is only 12ga (seems low for a 22 amp requirement, but it works). I cut off the alligator clamps and crimped on 10ga SAE leads to both sides (I could use the alligator clamps if I ever need to). I also ordered an SAE connector-7 blade male adapter (regular pickup trailer connector). Cheap enough to just buy. That will allow me to use the tank in the bed of the truck if need be (as in 'oops' ran out of fuel, better go get some and the tractor is where it's going to be). Or maybe if I am on some extended trip. Whatever.

I have a small skidsteer that can load it into the truck for fuel runs (back up to Blueford/TN55s) if need be. Just making it all flexible. Solve for the could be, minimize the unforeseen. I added a 10ga fused battery lead, SAE, to the skidsteer. Tested, pumps fine.

The value of the add on/vehicle/charger side SAE plug is that the colors follow the pin outs. Though I learned there is a polarity reverser available (would have been nice to have when I wired up a solar charger for a trailer). FWIW, the SAE plug is on the edge for current carrying in 10ga. 12ga appears to be a very safe limit; pin diameters and hollow are the concern, not the wire. Only using it as it worked against the rating of the pump. I would not anticipate it under a regular full load as lasting; tbd. Also, SAE is a misnomer. It's a remnant of a 4 pin SAE standards plug. No SAE rating at all, but we all know what it means. I like simple when I can use it, and this is simple in its complexity.

Maybe someone can use this information in the future, maybe not.

Thanks for the links for some interesting connections. That 4 pin, as you found, is a Hella product regardless of tractor use. Not real standard US use.
