Here's me starting the 50 hour service. That oil filter is hard to get hold of with the loader reinforcement.

Pine Ridge, there is something deeply satisfying about opening the jaws, locking the axles, driving into a pile of brush and chomping down on as much as you can pick up (which is a whole lot). We've been doing a lot of selective clearing trying to get rid of cedars (juniper) while saving more desirable trees. Lots of chainsaw work in areas a dozer would be too hard on. That grapple is the best laborsaving device for this kind of work I've ever encountered. For moving big piles of trees and limbs or moving stacks a dozer left too close to the woods to burn, this thing will do what would otherwise take a team of laborers a very long time.

One drawback - this kind of work is tough on your grill and hood. I already harpooned the black screen that is part of the hood - $159. Lucky I did not mess up the blue sheet metal. I'm going to weld a little more steel to the front guard to better protect in the future.

Did I read your profile correctly? You have a TL 100 (which is a wonderful tractor) but you run a 6' chopper and only a 8' disc? Why so small? I pull a 10' and 12' discs with the TN 65 with no problems except the 12' won't pull if it is wet (which is why I have a 10'). What do you raise where you are?

Robert,

I know the tractor will pull a 15' bat wing mower all day long --and I may wind up with at least an 8' mower soon, but for now I'm just tring to improve some land that has been untouched for 30 years -- totally overgrown. I'm not aiming for wide open space, but more of a park like setting for game and horses. Short answer is there are not enough uninterrupted acres or farming to justify a big disc setup. And frankly, with the stuff I've been cutting, I'm beating the devil out of that cutter. It is a Mohawk heavy duty unit with a pretty thick deck. So I need some maneuverability, but I need the power and weight to lift and to move trees and dirt. The 30 acres is north of Brenham, The other acreage is west of Kerrville and it is a whole different set of considerations.

/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif, that's not the button (ok, there are 2, a red and a green), and as 1buh2hog mentioned, they are on the ring below the shift knob. also, one is pushed in, the other is sticking out...and cannot be pushed...i couldn't resist, i tried.
so i guess the plot thickens

Well, Mr. CedarKiller, I noticed another tractor back in the woods in the photo of your 50hr service. It looks a lot like a Boomer. Do you have more than one tractor?

I bought my rotary cutter based on how much clearance I have rather than what I could operate with my tractor. I think it's ideal for getting in tight spots and clearing small brush between my larger trees.

What part of Texas are you in? It seems the cedar/jumiper is taking over open, uncultivated land in N. Texas. It sure makes nice mulch when you run it through a chipper/shredder though. It's great for flower beds. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have your answer - the ring at the base of the joystick handle is used to lock the FEL in position. It just slides up and down.

I haven't used mine yet, but that is what I was told it was for.

Since my tractor is in NC and I live in GA, can you try it and let me know if that is indeed what it is for?

I would hate to think I am not utilizing my 30K machine to it's fullest extent /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Yes, Jinman that is a brand new TC35D. It will stay in Brenham for maintenance when the TL goes to the Hill Country to tackle a lot more Cedar and Shin Oak - probably after the Winter (such as it is down here). The problem out in the Hill Country with Cedar is, once you cut it down, if you don't plant grass and keep the area cut, the Shin Oak pop up and become just as impenetrable as the Cedar were. And with all the rocks, it is difficult to get grass in and maintain it. Even a little Cedar sucks a lot a water out of the ground and as they get thick, nothing grows under them and you have erosion problems. There are some fields that are suitable for planting, but lots of hillsides with very little topsoil. Even if you save all the non-cedars and big, old cedars you still may not have enought trees in places so you have to pick your battles.

Back to that ring under the joystick, I've never used mine. Do I understand correctly that if you grab the ring and lift it up it locks the joystick? The manual I have shows a different latch below the ring for that, but I've never looked to even see if it was there. There's more than one instance I've found already where the manual was not up to date with the as-built design so maybe the ring is now the lock.

I spent a little over ten years in Dallas. How are things up in Wise County?

Holy crow, Jim!!!! How did you see that tractor in the background!!!!? You must have either an exceptional monitor or the tractor-luvin' equivalent of eagle's eyes /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif....
I can barely make out the SMV sign let alone that it is a Boomer....
