I'm so impressed with the battery option, I got rid of my gas ice auger and went with an Ion 8 inch auger. That puts considerably more stress on the batt than a saw.
I have a DK40SE, open cab. Moved snow for 6 years with it. Bought a soft cab for it, I kick myself for not doing it sooner. It was a pain to do the initial install as they sent the wrong wedge pieces for the canopy. But now that it is installed, I can have it removed in 5 minutes, reinstalled in 15 minutes. If the sun is out, it warms the cab up enough so I am only wearing light jeans, sneakers and a tee shirt. Before I was wearing Sorrel boots, LLBean vest with Carhart lined coveralls, the heaviest ski gloves I owned and a 'mad bomber' hat. I so wish I had done it sooner.
Well, I was leery of a battery powered one, but got a Husky battery powered one and am very happy with it. Weight was a big issue, and the battery one is a few pounds lighter. Battery life far exceeds my ability to keep going. As well, the battery one I got was $200 cheaper than the gas powered one (battery one was $350)
I bought new because the only used units I saw were either half destroyed and not worth trailering to the dump, or they wanted full list price of a comparable new one for their used unit. Don't mind buying used if it's been well cared for, but "well cared for" does NOT mean you get new tractor price for it. Some guys need a brain enema when they dream up what their "stuff" is worth.
So I bought new.
Got exactly what I wanted, got a warranty, and even got it delivered.
Same goes for implements. At least around here, unless it's completely destroyed and unusable, it's usually list price or higher. That's fine. I'll keep buying new.
I have noticed the same thing on some used tractors. I wondered where did they get these prices from for used equipment.
Pretty simple I think, its because of how things are bought and sold. Some say tractors hold value, while true, they simply arent worth new prices after being used thats non sense. The issue is like anything else its pricey, so people take a loans out. These loans are for 5-6-7 years sometimes more at low rates and then little money is put down. Not saying thats a bad thing I did that, my money was better spent elsewhere.
Anyways 2-3 years down the road people want to sell their tractors and only after 2-3 years left they still owe a lot on the tractor. So common sense tells them they need to get what they owe back. And what it has done, has created a lot of fake pricing even on older items. I dont nee many new used moving because they arent worth that. same thing is happening in the boat market, end of the day somebody has to take a bath, that why like the other guy I wont be used right now. Heck even cars is the same way, only difference is the seller trades in, tacks neg equity on the new loan and keeps going
I have an open cab now and would like to get a soft cab for it. Where did you find yours?
