To Canopy or not? Metal or plastic?

There's a lot of ways to do sun shading. Old tractors had an umbrella.
There was a guy, I think on TBN, that made a simple wood rectangular frame and stapled canvas on it, another guy used plywood.
Function is basically the same.
I like the way some are bent on the edges to provide more rigidity as well as being a rain gutter. You can still get pretty wet in a blowing rain trying to get back to the barn if you don't keep your eye on the clouds sometimes.

I've rode many a mile raking hay under an umbrella...... sure beats nothing on an August afternoon....... still use it on the 3000 ford that is the rake tractor.

Hard Canopy is much better for a multipurpose rig.

How about wood? Described here: http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/2407312-post71.html

I can stand on it to cut stuff way up high

A good way to fix a metal one that a tree has attacked is to take it off, lay it upside down on a sand pile/soft rug surface and pound it out with various hammer/bodyshop implements.

Yep, I covered a few miles baling hay under an umbella on an 85 hp Oliver.

Do you mean: "I CAN stand on it..."
Where did you get the rear-view mirror?
Nice set-up. How long from start to finish?

Oops, I edited it ... I musta been thinking, "I can't fall off this thing"

I can stand on it ... I can. I have. Nice & strong. Good place to get up high to cut limbs way up off the ground using my pole saw.

Rear-view mirror came from Pep Boys.

Easy roof to make, & way cheaper than the prices I see people mentioning from the tractor manufacturers. Cut boards, screw it together, paint it, bolt it on, done. You can make it however long you want. The design is all yours. You're not at the mercy of a roof already made by somebody else.

Bep, I saw this before when you posted it a while back, but I don't think I complimented you on a very nice job.

Thank you sir  Very kind of you. It really does work great. And it's simple & cheap enough that I don't sweat it too much if it looks like a branch might ding it a little bit. And when the plywood wears out, I'll spend $25 or so & just replace it

I like it!
Now you need to build a pull down stairway to get up there:)
