I was wondering if the resale value on a kubota 3430 tractor with HST is decent? Specifically, I am giving consideration to the purchase of this tractor with a loader for $18,200. I have 50 acres with tasks to be done not all the time but I could see myself having to rent equipment at times to do things on the property. I would certainly like a backhoe as well. It would make it very convenient. But, I would like to be able to recoop a good portion of my money down the road when i sell because I can't afford to keep the tractor long term. My thinking is to have it for a couple years during the building of my house phase and then sell. Seems more convenient than renting every time i need one. Any advice?

Personally, I'd buy...

If you're going to keep it for 2 or 3 years, you'd be selling past the years of most depriciation..which is good. Also, the tractor would be there when you need it..and you wouldn't have to worry about transporting from and to a rental store. Also, should you rent for a weekend and inclement weather sets in, you won't have the burden of paying for a rental machine that would set idle.

Consider a used tractor/loader/backhoe as well. If you're only expecting a few years use, and not going to cut grass with it, a used construction 'hoe might be your best bet.

Of course, you could also look into leasing. I don't know a thing about that, but some companies do it all the time.

I can tell you this I bought a L4300 in 2003 kept it for almost two years and I sold it this week for 2400 less than what I gave for it. Talk about holding it value. I could have got more out of it. The reason I say that is I sold it to the first guy that came and looked at it. I just wish my trucks had resale like that I would trade every year. Hope this helps you.

Tickridge, I have 65 acres and intend to build in 4 - 5 years. I bought an L5030 as I got REAL tired of renting. I don't regret it one bit. I now have the freedom to do what I want, when I want. You will be glad you bought it. Oh, and don't plan on reselling it, you won't. You'll love it too much. It only took one rental where I had to dig post holes in freezing rain to change my mind. I rented bush hogs, loaders, BB's etc. You can see what I bought below to just maintain 65 acres (40 paster 25 woods) for 4 - 5 years. Buy it, you won't regret it. The tax savings alone will cut your cost in half.

thanks everyone for replying. I am thinking I am leaning toward a Kioti with backhoe, can get it at much better price although I am not entirely sure i won't go with a kubota. Still thinking ....

Buy the tractor of your choice and enjoy it. It's worth it for the convenience alone. Renting gets to be a real pain after a while if you have to do it often and it gets to be expensive in a hurry. I would think that with 50 acres you could justify a tractor of that size permanently if you wanted to. I've never sold a tractor but from what others have said, they seem to hold their value very well if they've been looked after, certainly well enough to justify buying over renting over a two year time period.
