To tarp or not to tarp?

Automobiles and tractors are designed and manufactured (mostly the paint) to be left out in the weather. Power company bucket trucks, heavy construction dozers and school buses live outside, except for visits to the shop for service. Sitting idle, covered or not, is what causes the greatest damage.

I agree with this idea, and I live in the rainy place. Cover loosely and never to the ground. Keep the straight moisture off and leave enough moving air to evaporate away what condenses on the 'sheenery. If the space is more enclosed in a vapor barrier, the ground under it should also have a vapor barrier on it, and the space and metal mass should be heated to a temperature above the ambient. Keeping a 'positive temperature gradient' in such a partially ventilated space will help it stay dry. Let the machine get cold, and remain colder than the air, it will draw moisture.

Well.....at least the tractor don't talk back!!
Maybe the wifey is a bit grouchy...probably cold in that bucket and we're approaching the PA Turnpike...heading west!

Rite on enclose the open side with the tarp don't use it to cover the tractor.
Plastic or tarp on ground and breathable soft car cover on top, preferably one with built in elastic to keep it in place, green critter killer pellets on ground...done. I use the above system for my attachments as well as my trencher for our nasty NY winters.

Hang the tarp up on the open side and throw some moth balls around. Sleep tight!

I have a 24x48' tractor/equipment barn and can keep my Massey out of the weather completely enclosed. I used to have a problem with critters 'til we got a Jack Russell Terrier. She'll spend hours every day cleaning out the small critters which she brings home to show us her prize.
Last winter she got into it with a big ole' coon. We had to break that one up with a shovel. At 15 lbs. she wasn't much of a match for that 25 lb. coon. I will say she alerted us to it's prescence and had no intentions of of backing down.
