TO20 Colors?

Been meaning to post on this for a while - while most of the restored TO20's and TO30's I've seen are gray, mine appears to have been mostly green. All of it is green underneath, except the hood and fenders. It certainly appears that the green is the original color, but I'm not 100% sure. I'll have to look at it a little harder when I get a chance. Does anyone know if that is a common Ferguson color scheme?

Not sure if this is the case, but most of the bigger manufacturers would paint a tractor to order. This is especially so for county and state road departments, rec departments ect. It is not unusual to find yellow Farmall's, painted such for a county road maintenace unit.

Yours might have been ordered in a special color.

That thought had occurred to me too. It's also possible it was all green, and that the sheet metal is from another one that was factory gray. I think the green and gray will look real sharp, so if I ever get time to restore it (and can confirm the original colors), that’s what I’ll paint it.

I have seen late rmodel fergies.. like 30's and 35's especially the TE ( TE = tractor england... TO = Tractor overseas.. USA ).. with the green cast iron... but not the 20's.

Here is an idea that comes to mind. In the fifties, lots of ford dealers painted the used / traded all grey 9n/2n the same 'redbelly' paintjob as the 8n's and NAA to increase their saleability. Same happened when ford went blue... lots of old red/grey tractors got a blue / grey paintjob.. perhaps this was what happened to yours?

I grew up operating a TO20 my father bought new. It was all grey with blue and chrome highlights on the metal emblems. When I joined the U.S. Navy, I was really comfortable because haze grey and Fergie grey are pretty darn close. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

If I recall right Ferguson painted their tractors a metallic green one year. I don't remember what year or which models but they did do it. There is a collector about an hour from here with one and he explained it to me (he is a big collector, over 200 tractors and most having been restored already by him and his brother).
