Spent a few hours mowing the lawn one of the last times of the season. I think I need a bigger mower. :D

Got a load of horse manure(with hay, straw and sawdust), and spread it on next years garden area, using my FEL.

After leveling some rough spots in one of the meadows with my new box blade, we went out in the woods and pulled an old horse drawn sickle mower back to the barn so we can restore it next year. It's a Minnesota No. 4 Improved Mower that my wife's family has owned and operated it for close to 100 years, but it has sat dormant for close to 30, so it needs work.

We also pulled some other implements out, but they'll be the subjects of future posts.

Fun finds!

Joe

In the picture, it appears that the ground is piled up on the downhill side( retaining water).Pictures can sometimes be deceiving, but it looks like it's a downhill slope. A couple 'well placed' ditches/breaks, may drain that area for you.
Edit: If possible......move about 30 to 50 yards uphill, try to direct the water into 1 drainage ditch where it crosses the road. Will make life much easier.

You are right that it looks like it can be drained. It probably can but I couldnt do it. I have been trying to drain it all summer. I had some (good as I could) ditching along both sides of the road and accross the road in two places on either side of that mound. The ditches got filled in with mud when I started working on the corduroy. Water is contiually coming out of the ground right there. I am limited to hand tools as I can't get my tractor in there to work. I dont want to spend money so this is my approach. Someone with a skidder would not even notice this little spot but when you just have a little tractor it is hard to get around in the woods with boulders and side hills and the like.

Me and my wife Mowed my next door neighbors approximately 2 acres with our BX23 and BX1500.
Noticed the day before that their riding mower quit on them .
My wife asked the Mrs.it they would like us to mow their yard for them.
She said yes and that they had tried the night before but weren't able to find anybody to mow it.
The last time I mowed the place was around 2006 when their grand parents owned it.
I've lived next door to the place since 1966.
.

I forgot to mention that just before we finished the yard we helped another neighbor for about half an hour hauling weeds with the FEL on the BX23 .

Had several large Pine trees taken down since they were too close to the house. We chipped up all the tops , branches and anything 6 inches or smaller which left a tandum axel dump truck load of great wood chips. So I spent a couple of hours using the FEL to deliver the wood chips to my wife's flower beds and Island in the front yard. Sure did beat using a wheel barrel ...

I spent about 4 hours this morning digging the last rows of my potato patch, disking part of the patch and sowing my fall salad patch. Rolled the salad seed in with my cultipacker. Potatoes turned out good. We'll eat off the salad patch some, then maybe have a deer or two from there for the winter meat supply.

5 minutes bushogging, only to find the friction rings on the Woods MD172 were bad:mad:. Then an hour trying to find them (got there with 10 minutes before they closed), another hour or so changing them, then 2 hours finishing the bush hogging.

Did check out a new Kubota M7040:thumbsup:. Like I need something else I want.....
