I did the 100 hour oil change on my BX22, along with some other checks. I found the toe in was 3/4" rather than the 1/16" to 3/8" specified /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif This is the tread width at the front of the front tires compared to across the back. The back should be larger. I measured it with the lug tires installed, which made it easy to hook on a tape measure. It probably came this way, so you may want to check yours. Adjustment was easy. Also, I have a Deka battery with a large cover which sort of looks removable. I know it is supposed to be maintenance-free, but can/should this cover be removed to check the electrolyte level? I pried on it some, but it didn't move.

Wow! That is enough that if it was me I would double check my measurement...

Rather than use a tape measure, I prefer to use two sticks and a pen.

The sticks are shorter than the distance to be measured, and you pick two indentical places on the tire, once in front of the axle, and one behind.

Expand the sticks till they touch the front point, and use the pen to draw a line where the sticks overlap.

Do the same thing at the point behind the axle.

The distance between the two lines is the amount of toe in (or out, have to pay attention to which side the second line goes on...)

Tape measures are great, but nothing beats two sticks! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

PS...I mean strips of wood that are thin and long, and have flat sides...maybe 1/4 by 3/4 inch. Sticks off that tree in the back yard are a whole lot harder to use... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

It would be more accurate to measure from rim to rim rather than tire to tire.

The distance from the axle is important for tow in adjustment… if the factory spec is 3/8” at the rim, it could easily be ¾ “at the edge of the tire. I don’t know if all factory tractor tow in specifications are measured at rim edge or tire edge, but my WSM for L4200 states .1” to .3” at tire edge. KennyV.

Thanks. Now I have to check mine in the am. Thanks! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Your battery should have a sticker on it stating if the caps are removable. Many now are not.
