Picture could have been pic from series of construction accident photos with dead operator at the end. The ROPS is not a FOPS and a FOPS won't stop a tree that size. Cab would flatten operator.

Not all evergreens have tap roots, I think it depends on the soil since most any evergreen I've flipped or had pulled on my lot which is clay has had no tap root but a wide root ball base.

I would have sawed that tree down chest high since you were going to dig the stump anyways. My experience as been that a saw cut and fell doesn't shake the tree much.

Can't wait to see more clearing pictures.

Actually, since they were digging the stump anyways, I would have dug around the stump, then pushed the whole thing over (more leverage), then someone else could use the chainsaw or lighter on it.

I have also found that the act of digging out the stump can really shake the heck out of the attached tree. It is a sick feeling when you bump a tree trunk and then look up to see the top and branches are dead and that the trunk is wobbling around like its made of rubber. Swinging towards you then away and then towards you. Lots of weight in the top.

A healthy tree is different and quite satisfying to push over with the entire tree attached.
