Lloyd_E; Not a bad looking machine to begain on, way better then doing it by hand :D. I bet you have issue's with stuff binding up those wheels?

The main design flaw is the throat between the blade and the horizontal bar that holds the wheels. There's only a 3.75" inches of clearance... so to butterfly a log or do some fancy cutting is restricted to 3.75". We do have the face plate that goes over the blade and wheels to give more protection. And yes we need to mount some self cleaning mechanics to the band wheels and wheels on the carriage.

But not a bad mill to start with.

I noticed the small gap between blade and bar but thought maybe it was the way I was seeing the picture

You could drive the chainsaw blade in it few times, fill it with black powder and split it with the explosion - bang! and ready for the sawmill

The guy who farms our land was telling me about the farmer next to him who had a hoganator for blowing up ground hog holes. The police asked him not to use it because they were getting too many calls from neighbors who were afraid that the terrorists had come to Pennsylvania. I'll bet splitting logs with black powder would have much the same effect.

I had a Tulip Poplar salvaged from my yard that was slightly too big for my Baker sawmill. I had to chainsaw some nubs off of it. I cut up the second chunk of it a few weeks ago after it sat at my farm all last summer. It was still in good shape but some dead pine I cut last fall had sat too long.

Someone with a swing mill (Lucas or Peterson) could chop that up for you in no time!

I had a huge cherry tree cut up on my property. It was a little too much for the mill to handle, but we were able to cut a little here and there to get to size. The biggest problem was that my lot slopes slightly. Once we got the log up on the mill, it started to teeter as if it was going to tip over  Had to prop it up with the FEL on my JD955 to keep it from tipping until we got the first cut or two done. Not something I want to have to do again. :)
