Sure you can. But how long will it take versus hiring a dozer to do it in a few days? And what will you do when you've got it dug a few feet deep and then it rains. Now you've got a mudhole until it dries out again. And then you get to go bog around in it trying to dig some more before it rains again.

I hired a dozer to dig mine. A few days later I had an approx one acre pond that was about 14 feet deep. A couple of weeks later it came a 7.5" rain and filled it completely up, and in fact overflowed around the backside of the dam. (7.5" in 12 hours will do that.) I stocked it with catfish, bluegill, perch and minnows, and I go feed them every couple of days.

If I had tried to dig it with my tractor, I'd STILL be out there bogging around. And I'd have a partially dug mudhole to deal with.
You describe the problem with a "hole in the ground" pond. Even so, a drain can often be incorporated so that it doesnt hold water til you want it to.

Notice the first 3 words in my post, which you quoted. They were "Sure you can." I'm not saying it CAN'T be done. I'm just saying that a small tractor with a FEL is not the right tool for the job, and there are MUCH better/faster ways of doing it.

I could eventually do a lot of things with my BX23. I could mow 50 or 100 acres with it. I could figure out a way to move round bales with it. I could dig a mile long trench for a 24" sewer line with it. I could eventually knock down the hundreds of cedar trees I have to knock down. But there are much better tools for all of those jobs. Digging a pond is one of those types of jobs.

I notice you have at least 5 tractors listed in your profile, so you know what I'm saying.

.....but some people just need that 707hp to make up for lack of skills or perhaps something else in other areas.

Sheesh! Since when did this website become a car enthusiast bashing website!

I enjoy anything with an engine, cars, motorcycles, tractors, even my weed whacker.

Right now I'm enjoying a very fast, non-descript 4-door sedan. Most don't know anything about it. Those who do are a car enthusiast like me.

Seems many of those who comment as above are lacking in other areas?[/QUOTE]

Sounds a lot like m daily driver, 2003 Mercury Marauder. Most people think it is an old man's car. Most car enthusiasts know what it is, and I've surprised a few people at the autocross with it.

Some guy comes to the drag strip on the all Ford day with a Marauder that runs 10's in the 1/4 mi.
