way too many fall for it... I would not be surprised to see 2Botas's Ad in Craig's list next week. :(

As for flagging, I'll flag and then hit Reload / Refresh and flag again... about 15 times :D

Ya, Its pretty scarry how many scamers there are out there. I shouldnt have posted that hypothetical ad, as it may give a scammer a good idea.

One other thing you should always do when looking at high dollar items online. google the make, model, and serial # of the item you are looking at. It will bring up a list of ads and other info for that unit. Look at all the ads and check to make sure you get the same info in each ad. Alot of times these scammers will copy an ad from ebay or craigs list for the unit info and pictures, then they advertise it somewhere else for their scam.

I had a car for sale in autotrader once, all of a sudden i get call from a person about my ebay auction.....Ebay auction???? I looked on ebay and sure enough my car was for sale there. It was a 2006 BMW M3 and the Ebay auction had a "buy it now" of $9000.00. The ad said that the owner lived in south africa and that the car could not be shipped to south africa. this is why it was so cheap. Lukily, the person who called me had googled the vin from the car and saw the autotrader ad that i had placed. He then called me and let me know what was going on.

2005 Kubota BX2230 4wd Compact Tractor. This unit has ONLY 195 Hours on it. It is powered by a 22 HP 3 Cylinder Liquid Cooled Kubota Diesel Engine. This machine also has the following features and options: Fully Hydrostatic (Automatic) Hi-Lo Transmission, Power Steering, Diff Lock, Turf Tires, Mid Pto, Rear Pto, Rear 3 Pt. Large 60" Mid Mower, and a Kubota LA211 Loader w/ 4 foot Bucket. This machine runs out great. The only cosmetic issues this machine has: is the hood has a few very very light scuffs from tree limbs, the side of the deck has the normal scuffs on it, and the loader bucket has some scratches from being used. Overall this is a really clean machine

Yep the same guy had the same Kubota on Craigslist here. Funny but at that point in time he was living in Maine. Don't ask me how I know these things.

those of us who are computer literate are aware of this kind of scam that has been going on now for years, but is becoming much more pervasive and clever in its presentation.

I was agast today that our housekeeper was all disturbed about an email they had gotten from a bank that they did not have an account with..... I get about 10 of these a week..... I told her to ignore it and gave her some education regarding how the scams work. She had never heard of the problem... I guess a lot of people are just now getting hit...

John, in this area, lots of people have been getting phone calls from someone claiming to be from Point Bank, saying you need to call about a problem with your account, and the Caller ID shows Point Bank. A lot of people have been reporting the scam to the police in Denton and the local newspaper ran an article about it. I think we got 3 of those calls ourselves, and as with many others who have gotten the calls, we don't have an account at Point Bank.:) Of course, even if we did, we wouldn't be falling for that old scam.

Bird, thanks for the heads-up!

My practice, just FYI, is that if I DO think that there is even a shread of legitimacy in a call/email/whatever, I INDEPENDENTLY find a phone number, email address or URL and use it to contact the company directly..... I NEVER talk directly to anyone who initiates a call to me... or click on a link that comes in an email UNLESS I INITIATED that contact myself.

This is another problem that seems to be emerging... a charge on your credit card from a company you know nothing about.
