I finally got around to putting on my double ring tire chains on my 18.4 - 16.1 turf tires yesterday. I was disappointed to find the chain overlapped itself by almost three cross chains (didn't measure, maybe a foot and a half or two). The cross chains seem the right width, its just the length is too long. I got them from a local farm supply store and think they either loaded the wrong ones, or, just gave me too much (sucks to be the guy who got the short ones!).
So, i measured the length of the chain which comes out to about 10' 7" I'm thinking about shortening the chain myself since it doesn't look all that difficult if I can find the right cutting instrument. My question is, does anyone know or is there some sort of formula for figuring how long 18.4 - 16.1 tire chain should be? I could eyeball it, but much rather have a figure to guide me.
There is also the chance I don't know what I'm talking about seeing as how these are the first tractor tire chains I've ever had. I just don't see the reason why they would overlap so much.
thanks is advance!
