JBourquin I've been taking them fishing since they were about that age. I learned early to fish with them and NOT fish myself until they were 8 or 10. I took my son and oldest daughter fishing at about 3 or so. They both caught lots of small bass. It was really fun and they've been hooked since. You have to go at their pace when they are that young AND go somewhere where they can catch lots of little fish. They will do better if there is lots of activity.

Creekbend, I would rather fish with my family than anybody else. They are a "salty" group. Of course it is all about the fishing for them and about something else entirely for me.

....

I would add that for younger kids take them to a nice creek, stream or farm pond where you can keep good eye on all the kids. That way you have lots of creepy crawlers to keep them happy playing/entertained with them. catching a good number of pan fish , bass and the like as well as frogs salamanders water bugs etc.

when they start getting tired of fishing play in the rocks and stream and or turn over rocks with them. point being to keep the little kids interested in going and having a great time, not to catch mounts for the wall.

Once the kids are hooked you can then go like the OP with them at older ages and give them life long outdoor love affair.
