The same is true for golfers and from what I see at the country club they don't do anything excertional.
Proly just about anybody in any sport.

And I may not be ready to go at age fifty, but dying while sitting under a tree in the woods sounds like an ideal way to go if you ask me.
I know some folks that have a dairy farm... 800 acres or so. Very nice woods, lake and trails... just a really beautiful piece of property. They said about 20 years ago an older gentleman came out to go raccoon hunting at night, as he had done each fall for decades. Around 1 or 2 in the morning the man's wife called up and asked them to check on him, as it wasn't like him to stay out that late. So they went out to the woods. It had started to rain gently. As they approached the woods they saw a flashlight beam pointed up into the trees. They followed it and found the man had passed away, sitting on a log, gun across his lap, flashlight tucked under his arm. They said his eyes were closed and he looked very peaceful, just like he stopped to take a nap and never woke up. That sounds like a good way to go to me, too.

A friend of mine was turkey hunting one year on a farm. After hunting that morning he walked up to the farm house to thank the old farmer for letting him hunt and chat with him a while. As he approached he saw him sitting in the porch swing and when he got up to the porch he realized that he had passed away. His wife siad he'd always sat in the porch swing each morning and had only been out there less than an hour. My friend said he was still sitting up, peaceful as he could be looking out over the hills.
Man I'd love to go like that!

Yep, I only fall into 2 of the 3 myself. As to the third one . . . ., I'm well past middle aged.
And I've decided that Mark Twain was right when he said he'd never taken any exercise and didn't intend to; said he could never see any benefit in being tired.
I made the mistake of starting walking every day for exercise; sometimes on the treadmill, sometimes on the street the first of August. By the first of September I was walking 3 to 5 miles a day. And then my left foot went bad on me and gave me so much pain I could hardly get around. I'd never even heard of "Plantar Fasciitis" before, but I can tell you it is one painful malady.
And the doctors tell me it's quite common.

Great story.
I hope to live to 100 or more, just because I would like to see what comes next. My grandma was born in 1896 and the stories she could tell about what life was like before modern plumbing, electricity in the home and motorized transportation just facinated me.
Anyhow, not to hi-jack the thread anymore...
I've never been hunting. I started fishing on my own as a kid. My dad didn't care for it and never went with me. My kids enjoy it a bit. The youngest actually likes to ice fish with me, but I think it is only because she always catches the most.

My Grand-father was born 1900 and just died this year, 2008 at 107! He was sharp to the end and loved to tell stories. I'd always take the time to listen, including the re-runs. Just as you stated, a person whom lived without ele, indoor H2O. He was the owner of a country store through the 30's and a farmer until the end. He was so amazed I had a 45 HP tractor, just for fun of moving snow, dirt or what ever I saw fit! He was not much of a hunter/fisher, no time for fun I'd guess. Food wasn't the issue, he had hogs and beef and 200 ac of grain.
