Are you two going bringing the HST vs Gears competition over here? :D:D:D:D:D

My granny said she would NEVER go into a nursing home. She got to a point where she had to be hospitalized a few times. After the last visit the doctor told granny she would have to go into a home. My granny left and said that she was not going into a home. She died a less than a week later. A care giver would stay at the house a few hours a day. One day the care giver was playing the piano singing gospel songs with my granny. The next day granny had passed. I know dang well she will it. It was time to go.

A coworker had a father in law who was a farmer. He had to quit farming years ago due to his age. He always said he wanted to die with his boots on. One day is wife was going into town to get groceries. He always went with her but this day he said he was going to stay home and take a nap. His wife got home and he was dead on the couch. With his boots on.

So much better to go out in ways like this. A rural county near us has been loosing teenagers in car accidents at a horrible rate. An 18 year old just got hit by a drunk driver this weekend. She was killed. She was very close to her house. Close enough for her parents to hear the accident and go see what happened...:(:(:(:( Just not right.

Back to the subject. :) Not sure if the kids really want to go hunting or not. One says yes I can shoot the deer. The other says NO!. They like to watch Dr G. Medical Examiner! They are 5 and 8! When I told them if I shot a deer I would show them the heart, lungs, kidneys, etc, the one who said NO! said YES!. :D

I think I should be afraid. :D:D:D:D:D

Gun season starts THIS Saturday. I thought it was last Saturday. Twas good the season does not open until this Saturday because I lost my deer tags! I had them a few weeks ago but for the life of me I cant find them. Tore the house apart looking for them. Called up the WRC today to get a new set of tags mailed to me. The lady was nice enough to print it out and put it in the mail for me today.

So maybe we will go hunting Saturday. Don't really care if we get a deer or not. Just an excuse to walk through our woods with the girls. :D

Yup, that's important.
Even on our strolls through the country we often take our .22 rifles or a stick. Wes started doing it by himself not too long ago when he was 10. Just getting them into the woods builds a lifetime relationship with Nature and they get used to it. Now even when catching bugs the kids bring either their pellet guns or a .22 with them. He rarely shoots at anything unless it's a rabbit or something he can cook and eat.:) But it's just great to see them enjoying themselves like that.

We went out yesterday and bought three blaze orange hats to wear. The girls and I took a walk on Sunday after I finished mowing. I wanted to show them some new paths I had opened up as well as this one area I had cleared. More importantly it was to get it in their heads that the MX6 is very dangerous. I KNOW the oldest kids gets it and I think the youngest does as well. Showing them the shattered stumps, little itty pieces of saplings and a few rocks that got hit and smashed drives home the point.:)

Course my youngest who wants to have a zoo of animals immediately noticed ALL this open space and informed me that there was enough room for horses..... :D:D:D

Unfortunately on our little walk, in spite of the several frosts we have had, the chiggers are still out there....

When we go hunting I'm going to drive the truck down the "road" and park at a spot that covers two open areas that are safe to shoot into. The road is a road but it is gated and its really a driveway. I'm going to sit the kids in some chairs in the bed of the truck and wrap them in a blanket. :D Its roughing it I know. :D:D But it should keep the chiggers off of them.

Figure if they last 30 minutes it will be impressive. :D

The oldest wore her blaze orange knit hat to school today. :)

Sounds like fun, I am sure they will enjoy themselves.

My oldest won't be hunting during gun season this year, at least not to start. I am thinking it will be too cold for him as the temps have really dropped here. I am definitely glad that I got him out when I did.

My youngest was only 5 years old when she informed me that she wanted a horse. We lived in town on a regular city lot and home so I told her we didn't have a place to keep a horse, and she said, "Well, you could build a cage for it.":D

The youngest has been nagging us for a horse for years. She is 5. But smart.

I went through the list of Why We Can't Have A Horse. Horses need grass. We would have to cut down alot of trees to get grass. And get up the stumps. And rocks. This takes money we dont have. Horses cost money we don't have. We would have to put up expense fences. Horses take lots of care. We would have to build a barn. We would have to have a well. We would have to run power....

She has parsed this long list and figured out that the first stage in getting her horses is to cut down the trees...

My parents were up here a couple of months back. Grandpa was bored and looking for something to do so he went to thin out and clean up an area in front of the house. The Horse Owner Wanna Be heard grandpa and I talking. Per the conversation she heard us talking about cutting down some small trees aka saplings and digging up some small stumps. I told grandpda to leave it be I can get it done with the tractor but he wanted some exercise and something to do.

So off grandpa goes to work. About 30 minutes after he starts working, the Horse Owner Wanna Be goes out of the front porch and yells at grandpa, "Grandpa, Are you chopping down trees or are you digging up stumps?"

The right answer was cutting down trees. NOT digging up stumps. :D Which is what he was doing. :)

This is going to be one of those stories she will hear for the rest of her life. :D:D:D
