Took the plunge... Off my tractor

I've had this happen too. It's funny when no one gets hurt. I could imagine someone getting seriously injured though. Please be careful.

I was happily mowing away yesterday on my 1023E when the fire pager on my hip went off for a call. I happened to be in shorts, and happened to dismount from the right side - where the joystick is. Welllllllll... I jumped off in a hurry, and the joystick went up my shorts, and due to my forward momentum, I then proceeded to to flip forward and face plant into the ground. I ended up with a bent joystick, and a mouthful of fresh grass, but I learned a lesson - don't jump off the right side of a tractor in shorts!

Anyone ever done anything dumb mounting/dismounting their tractors???
You aren't the first person on here to have this experience. Loose clothing, short pants, bib overalls, I won't wear when using my tractor or working out of doors.

Good word of caution from Cat Driver. I am surprised that I survived growing up on a farm. Should I post the large scar across the small of my back when I got caught in hay elevator? I am surprised that in my semi retirement I ever bought a farm.

Our machines are all very helpful, but when we throw caution to the wind we end up getting hurt. I am on and off my tractor many times and it takes a concerted effort to make sure that the PTO is off, direction lever in neutral and the brake on. Only takes about three seconds. It would look silly for me to be chased down one of my steep hills by my little JD 2305.

My gator looked really nice when I first got it, but three days into ownership, my adult daughter decided that putting the brake on before dismounting was not necessary and it ran off into the woods!

How many things could be added to this list?

My Mom always told us that "haste makes waste". I found that true getting off the tractor as well. I did the same thing some years ago and ended up twisting my knee. It still bothers me.

If you have ever driven an IH tractor with a TA you will know about ripped shirts. Every once in awhile my shirt gets caught on the TA lever as I climb off and rips all the buttons off or tears it.
