Tool Box

   / Tool Box #21
Jeff,
Mine sits up high on the L fender. Picture no longer possible as my digital camera got stolen out of my suitcase in Tblisi, but I'll go look at the brackets in the daylight tomorrow. Hopefully fewer than 1000 words will suffice in place of picture.

If you can tell me if the bottom of your tool box is resting on the bracket, or if there is a 3" gap between the two, it would be helpful. Better yet, the dimensions of the tool box would be a tremendous help.
Thanks, Jeff

Heres a couple of pics of mine. More like an inch gap between box and bracket. I said three earlier. My mistake.

Jeff,
It looks like you've got it exactly right....or at least the same as my dealer installed it. Tool box is 16 1/4 long X 5" wide X 4.5 deep. It sits 1 1/2" above the horizontal part of the bracket, held in place by 1) the vertical plate that fits underneath the tooolbox hinge and 2) a 5/8" tab that sticks out of the same vertical plate about 3" above the horizonal section. The tab pops into a hole in the back of the tool box (about 1 1/2" up from the bottom of the tool box) to hold it down. Good thing the tool box is plastic, otherwise the tab would never "pop" in.

I'm, not sure why they designed it this way...seems you could have another inch and a half of tool storage, and a more solid mount....but then there would be more sockets or screwdrivers stored there and I'd have to go out to the barn to retrieve the tool I need even more often.

Congratulations on figuring it out without seeing one....As I look at mine I realize that if it hadn't come installed, I'd still be sitting there with the bits in hand....or I would have been drilling new holes in all of them to make it fit the way I thought it should.

Thanks for your help. I still can't figure why someone would engineer something (in my opinion) so poorly. I'll be making modifications. Thanks again.
Jeff
