Do most of you install your tooth bars or let the dealer install.
Is it a diffucult job.

I think that you will find that most of us installed them ourself. I was a little worried about drilling through the bucket, but it honestly took me longer to get my drill and extension cord out than it did to drill the holes. The white hole saw that you can buy works great.

Dan if you are handy enough to change your own oil then you can install a tooth bar. One mounting hole on each end of your bucket and you'll be digging like a mad-man. Or in the case of a few TBN members "mad-max".

That is, if you have a drill and the right size bit. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Bird's right - - it sent me to the hardware store for a bit large enough.

Bird I'm thinking some of the manufacturers are getting smarter. The bucket that came with our New Holland was pre-drilled for a tooth-bar. I'll bet NH isn't the only one following suit........

EDIT: Here's a picture of the new bucket even before we added the tooth-bar.

It took me all of 15 minutes..... And I was dragging my feet.

If you can use a hand drill and are willing to spend a few bucks on a good drill bit, you will have no problems. I recommend Markham welding, but there are a lot of others out there.

Good luck,

Gary

Mike, I wonder whether the manufacturer did that, or whether the dealer did it. Seem like a good idea anyway.

Get a bimetal hole saw to cut the mounting holes. Takes only a few minutes. I think most of us have installed our toothbars ourselves. At least, there are a lot of posts that said they did.
A lot of dealers are still unaware of toothbars, and as they become familiar, more are adding them in advance from what I've seen lately.

Since I am close to them, had Markham install mine. The only difference I see from the other posts is that they added a square of 1/4" flat stock to the out side of each bucket end where they made the holes. Obviously for added strength.
