Grading Tooth Blade for FEL on BX22?

Well, I did it. Spent the last few weeks lurking on this forum and decided to get a BX22. It's getting delivered Friday. My question for you folks is wether or not I should have the dealer install a tooth blade on the FEL. Initial profects will include spreading a lot of dirt from a large mound. Will the tooth blade help that much? He wants $275 for it. Thanks.

I can't speak from experience since I don't have a tractor yet. But from everything I've read, and I would strongly urge you to do a search for "toothbars" (I think you'll find a wealth of information! /w3tcompact/icons/wink.gif), I would think it would be an advantage to have one. If your large mound of dirt is at all compacted, the toothbar will make filling your bucket a whole lot easier. As for spreading the dirt, you can use your bucket in the float position and backdrag it to smooth things out. You would need to to tip the front of the bucket up just a little so that the back side of the bucket is doing the smoothing.

I don't think a tooth bar will be any help in spreading and smoothing dirt, but it's really a BIG help in digging, whether digging a hole or digging into piles of dirt (unless it's very loose, fluffy dirt).

Sounds like dust to me too /w3tcompact/icons/laugh.gif. While I recommend the tooh bar for any FEL, I don't know if you can get it with a broom./w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Go for the tooth bar, I used mine last night as I tilled a landscape site. You can actually level high spots with the fel and tooth bar dragging the ground while the tiller is engaged. It also allows for loading of bulky items like rolls of landscape fabric and the fel can carry more in the bucket when moving mulch.

PAJohn - I'm going to go slightly against the grain here. You are talking about a BX22 with a backhoe, right? I chose to pass on the toothbar(for now).

I use the backhoe to dig and break up piles of dirt(some sitting for 3-4 yrs). I'm pretty sure that's what a backhoe is supposed to do......dig. I use my loader....to....er....well....load. One advantage to having the toothbar would be for a little more stability when putting the bucket edge down to create the "tripod" for backhoe work. I haven't found it to be a handicap not having a toothbar...yet.

If you have the money to spend now.......go for it. Otherwise you can use the money toward some other implement you need now. It can always be added later.

If you're talking about a BX2200 without a backhoe.....then....follow the advice of the others. You have no choice than to use your "load"er to dig. C
