anybody have a pic to post of an installed toothbar? i tried to install mine.. and let's just say that i installed it incorrectly. i ended up mounting it too far forward (aligning the cutting edge of the toothbar with the cutting edge of the FEL). the result was pretty severe:

i managed to bend the toothbar mounts. i think i can salvage them by heating and bending them back into place, but i'd love to see a pic of one installed before i do this again. i just noticed a pic on an TBN advertisers page.. and that pic does not match how i installed mine.

here's a word for those marketing toothbars:

how about some directions for us morons?

I hope you can see this okay. It's not on my tractor, but I didn't have a good pic of that.
I don't know which type you have, but most I've seen have a V that is made from the shanks of the teeth and they slip over the edge of the cutting edge, pushed all the way into the mouth of the V. The mounting brackets go inside the bucket, and a hole is cut in each end of the bucket.
See attachment, John
I forgot to say that in this picture, the teeth are in the right place, but the mounting brackets appear to be welded onto the outside. Yours most likely will go inside and bolted in. J

I don't have a pic of mine, but I'd love to see a pic of yours mounted incorrectly /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif You must have really been reefing on it to bend the mounts. Either that or it's a weird design.
If nobody posts a pic, I'll take one later today for you.

thx guys.. now i know what i did wrong. and BOY.. am i ever gonna hear about it from my wife (who was trying to help out!). i should have installed the groove @ the edge of the teeth. didn't do that.

instead, i spent time drilling holes where i should NOT have drilled holes (the large blocks on the edges of the FEL). now i'll have to salvage the installation.

MAN.. the more i use it, the more i learn.. but boy, i better start asking questions before i drill.

will post a pic shortly.

There are many things about tractors, implements, and hookups that are completely and simply obvious -- after someone has explained it to you.

It's that Homer Simpson d'oh -- slap on the forehead moment. That's why my forehead is flat. Well, that and beating it against the wall or a nearby tree, usually on purpose.

There are some things I do where even the dog is sitting there looking at me, head tilted askew, as though to say, "For crying out loud, you measured from the wrong side!" I don't think he's laughing at me, but you can never tell.

Good luck with the tooth bar.

WOW! .. now that's quite a tutorial.. and am i ever disappointed at myself for not finding it in the archives (did look before i put it on).

well, ya live and ya learn.. hopefully have alot of both left!

managed to bend the brackets on the troothbar, can probably fix those. my only concern are the holes i drilled into the VERY THICK cutting edge sides. (i'll get some pics this weekend)

Well psuedofarmer,

If you did yours like that, guess what dont feel bad. I did mine that way to. Guess you all know what I'll be doing this weekend, you guessed it, doing it the right way. Shouldnt have been in such a hurry, maybe if I ran a forum /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gifsearch first I would only have to do it once.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the holes. You could fill them with weld...., but then you'll lose more integrity from all the heat you would be applying rather than just leaving them there.
You may find a use for them someday.

I wouldn't worry too much about the holes you drilled, just fill them with something or at least keep them painted to reduce the rusting.
If you were the only one who ever made mistakes such as this one, there wouldn't be such a need for tractor and other type forums! John

Here's a photo of my home-made, pretty cheap ($50 total) toothbar that I had posted last year. It has worked fine, doing a lot of tearing and digging... keep in mind that it's on a smallish tractor, a Kubota B8200, and the concept of combine teeth would be too frail for a serious CUT bucket.

tell the wife that those holes are for water dispersing when you are digging in the mud and they needed to be there anyway. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Dont worry about them.
