now that ive been won over about the NEED for a toothbar, is there any kinds/styles that are preferred? did you all purchase them at your dealer? off the net?

it will be on the l352 loader on a b7610. i believe it has a 50" bucket.

thanks
John

There are a lot of options - I shopped the internet - and as usual I got as good a deal as any by going to my local dealer. Shop around though - this steel surcharge is even hitting items like this.

From what I discovered while searching for my toothbar is that they are all pretty much made the same way, with teeth that go over/under the cutting edge. They all looked so similar that I suspect most are made OEM for many companies. I ended up getting a Woods Equipement Toothbar through my dealer at a better price than I could get on the net and pay shipping. The only real decision is do you need standard, or heavy duty. With the Woods (listed under skid steer attachments), the heavy duty is necessary for a bolt on cutting edge, the standard otherwise. You will need to provide inside the bucket and cutting edge thickness measurements so that the bar will fit properly. Hope this helps. John

I think there are two varieties. One has teeth that sort of slip over the cutting edge...the other is the kind I have that has two pieces of steel welded together in a shallow V shape, with teeth welded to it. This completely covers the cutting edge top and bottom. Seems to make a pretty strong lower lip. I don't know if it is really stronger than the other kind or not.

If I can find it, I will attach a pic of mine. Also, a search of the archives for "toothbar" should provide a lot of info...

WiJC,

I have the same tractor and loader you have and had the tooth bar installed by my dealer as well. It requires them to cut 2 holes, 1 on each side, of the bucket to mount the unit to the bucket. It can be removed if needed. I can tell you it makes a difference. It is like my bucket was a hand with no fingers before I got the toothbar.

Just came back from my NH dealer and am still stunned. They wanted 478 bucks for a toothebar to fit my 16LA loader. Thankfully I already have a cutting edge. I also asked about a 757C bachoe for the same tractor, 7100 bucks. It's only my opinion, but both prices seemed out of line in more ways than one. Where can I get a better deal? /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

If you want to buy it locally you might want to check a place that specializes in contruction stuff (skid steers, trackhoes etc). I ended up buying my toothbar through my dealer, but it would've been cheaper to go through the skid steer place. I paid $417 after tax, I think the skid steer place was around $350. That is for a 59-1/4".

I think they are so expensive because they have to make them to order. It's well worth it though, quite a difference in digging and brush collection.

My dealer charged $330 installed for my LA352 loader toothbar.

I stopped in at our JohnDeer construction equipment dealer and picked up a skid-steer (JD) 60" toothbar for $250 that fit my NH TC33 just right. It looks a little heavier than what our NH dealer carried at $400+. It mounts with 1 bolt on each side as described by someone else earlier.

That sounds like a real winner. Mine is 72" wide, but it sounds like it'll still be less expensive. Thanks. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I will build mine. An 6' bucket will need 8 teeth. A guy on ebay sells them as a business and offers 8 HD teeth with shanks for about $120. He also affers sets of six or seven. 866+222-2557 is his toll free number. The rest is three pieces of metal and two holes. I ordered one tooth ($15) and will make the bar first. After I have the bar built and I'm sure the tooth ordered is correct I'll order seven more. This reduces risk.

For the steel a good smaller fabricator shop might sell you the three pieces of steel cut exactly to length.

The savings compared to $320 price would pay for most of a Lincoln welder from Sam's club if you don't have one.

Look at "Build it yourself" and "customization" discussions for more info. I'll be posting step by step list of what I did.

I just bought a GEHL from my local dealer. 64 1/4", $300 out the door. Definitely shop around.

the dealer has a local welder that makes them for him. time will tell how it holds up, but it has done everything ive wanted so far.

the dealer said he has this guy make them quite often for him. i dont think it would make sense for him to continue this if they didnt hold up or held up badly.
