( well call me cheap, but I think $250 is too much for a small hunk of steel without any moving parts, and since I have a welder, I have decided to build my own toothbar. I went down to an industrial surplus warehouse today and picked up the steel stock for $1.50 per pound. Now I just need to buy a bunch of metal cutting blades for my sawz-all, cut it up and weld it together. It won't be as pretty as the ones you guys buy, but I'm sure it will be quite functional. I'll post pictures when I'm done; I'm sure it will be several weeks. )
I'm sure you'll have fun doing it yourself, but how much money can you save? My toothbar weighs about 150 pounds, so at $1.50 per pound that would be $225 just for steel, not allowing for any waste, or supplies, or labor, or teeth (unless you will be making those, too). I don't mean to discourage you, on the contrary I'll be anxious to see the end result.
