I was planning on putting on a tooth bar but am undecided on who to get it from. Being new to owning a B7800 don't know how much cutting edge needs to be left on the bucket. Will i need to change the edge? Hope some veterans can help me out.

You live in a nice area of the state! The most common toothbars just slide over the factory cutting edge, and reinforce it. I like the ones from Markham Welding since they seem well made, are priced fairly, and are well matched in construction for tractors the size of yours. One tip if you install it yourself ( requires two drilled holes in the loader bucket) is to drill the holes near the front of the slot in the toothbar so you can loosen it, slide it out a bit, and flip it into the bucket when you need a smooth cutting edge. Good luck!

Mike...... like Chuck said, you would leave the cutting edge right where it is. How do you like your 7800? That is one of the tractors i'm looking at to buy. Did you buy it new? How was the dealer you bought from?

Do you have a bolt on cutting edge?
Or is it just the factory welded edge?
Also you will need the inside measurement of the bucket.

I have also thought about getting a tooth bar for my B7800. Markham sounds like the place to get one at. Gotta love the B7800!!;)

I am in the market for a toothbar myself. Markham ( www.markhamwelding.com/content/view/16/32/ ) seems to get the overwhelming vote on this site for being a good valued product that can be ordered directly from the manufacturer, but I am also seriously looking at the ez-landscaper ( www.ezattachments.com/id35.htm ), 40% more $, but has twice as many teeth which aids in smooth back-dragging. Then there's the Long ( www.wrlonginc.com/FTB.htm ) with a flat bottom, and then there's the Westendorf back-drag blade ( www.loaders.com/aspx/Product/Default.aspx?productid=116 ) that goes onto the back edge of the bucket.

I'm also interested in a toothbar for my 63" heavy duty John Deere Bucket. It has a bolt on cutting edge and with the John Deere Toothbar that has to be remvoed which is too much trouble. It looks like markham's doesn't work with a bolt on cutting edge but maybe the other two will.

I don't know what the price is now with the cost of steel, but I bought a Woods toothbar from my dealer for my B7800. All I can tell you is that out of all of my implements that I have purchased, the toothbar is the most useful.

The only time that I take it off is for snow removal.

I got a response from wrlong and theirs requires a bolt on cutting edge to be removed. Haven't heard back from ezattachments yet.

Berlon makes a toothbar for bolt-on cutting edges. They claim it fits "all sizes".

Then there's the Long ( Tooth Bars TB, STB, and ITB ) with a flat bottom, and then there's the Westendorf back-drag blade ( Front-End Loaders by Westendorf: loader for tractor, shade canopy, wagons, manure & landscaping equipment. ) that goes onto the back edge of the bucket.
The ez-landscaper looks like it would be more useful to me than the Markham. It is lighter duty than the Marham, but that should be fine given how I would use it:
  • Scooping woodchips, compost, and loose dirt
  • Turning my compost pile
  • Spreading compost and woodchips
I believe a large number of light duty teeth are better suited for these tasks. I don't need the heavy duty teeth to pop big roots or do difficult digging.

What type of quote did you get for the ez-landscaper?

Chris

I had written Berlon. Their toothbar only fits Berlon buckets with a BOCE. They will custom build to your bucket if you can bring your bucket in. So for only EZAttachment says their Toothbar will fit any Bucket with a Bolt On Cutting Edge.
